We have just purchased a 1985 tarago with a diesel engine factory fitted.
It is a 2C 2 litre OHC diesel, very similar in appearance to the L motor in Hiaces.
When I rang the local Toyota dealer to ask about parts availability he had never even heard of a diesel Tarago, and it is the only one I can remember ever seeing.
Can anyone tell me anything about them?
Such as, how long were they available, and how many were sold here?

Also, are parts hard to get for them, and how much if anything is the same as teh Hiace diesel?

It has an overheating problem, which I have traced to water being flicked around by the timing belt from the region of the water pump. This looks like it will be a real sod to get off.

I have been able to ascertain that the 2C motor was used in Corollas (not in Aus though0, Taragos, and possibly Liteaces. Was it used in anything else?
Are there any bad habits of the motor?
I used to drive a Nissan E20 which only really shared its motor with 2 other models, and was a ***** to get parts for.

hi, i just recently purchased a diesel tarago myself. It's an 83 model and the guy who owned it was a truckie and reckoned that the diesel motor is the same as a hilux's. I don't know how true this is, but he also said that diesel tarago's are definitely no that common.

So long as you can provide Toyota with the VIN number they should have no issues finding the correct parts...

I've got a question.

Why did they stop making them?

hi all...
while both the 2c and 2c-t engines look similar to the 2L and 3L hilux engines....they are vastly different. the "L" series hilux engines are physically bigger and don't fit in and engine bay designed for a 2c engine.

cheers
