hey guys

took the stivo to cannon toyota today took the mechanic for a cruise to show him what the deal was.
he said he had had toyotas in before with this problem but never a rolla ( find it hard to belive )
anyway the dealer straight away is going to replace the gear selector cables then give me the car back for the weekend to see how it goes if theres still a problem they reckon they will pull out the gearbox and see what the deal is.
i explained how others on this site have the same problem and are getting frustrated with toyota not doing anything about it.
anyway they apologised about it and said they will do evrything possible to help me lol i wont hold my breath howeva we will see what happens.
the mechanic seems to think that its not the clutch because its not making a crunching noise its just wont go into gear.
but ive got the feeling hes delt with it before because he said to pump the clutch when the gear jams and funnily enough it works howeva as i told him doing so drops the rpms and lower revs means no gear probs.
he also said nothing about racing the rpms to 8,000
he said the motor is made to run like this.
anyway ill keep evryone posted and see how it goes.

p.s the bastards gave me a ****ty lancer to get around in till the stivo is fixed.
as much as i ***** and moan about the stivo i love it and nothing in this size will compare. mine doesnt have any rattles or noise but if it cant change gears i cant drive it the way i wanna.

anyway i had my car looked at last week. they didnt give me a car to use. But it only took a day. They said they were going to change the clutch, but they didnt. I honestly dont care what they do as long as they fix it. Had mine done at Melbourne City Toyota. They said they had guys from toyota come over take a look at it and made some adjustments.

First impression so far, its no doubt better than before. I can get into 2nd even at 8k RPMS. Sometimes there is still problem getting it in, but its a far cry from last time when i couldnt never get it in past 7k no matter what. I havent tested it much yet so have to wiat a while. It still doesnt seem as smooth as my friends tivo, but I will give it some time. I notice the clutch pedal is harder now and it bounces back much quicker than before. This is one thing i noticed as a difference between my car and my friends tivo before i had it fix. Im sure this has something to do with the gear crunch problem. According to toyota, they made an adjustment to the lever. not 100% sure what else they did, but i am definitely having more fun with the car now. Hoping it keeps up. Good luck with yours eddy.

yeah the guy handling my case was Mersad...
before this, he said he never heard of a case like this, well he would know now. Good luck.

I took mine in about 2 months ago and complained about crunching going into second, my dealer pulled the box apart and said that while its ok to drive, the synchros on second are knackered, they reckon that there is evidence to suggest its a mechanical fault and not driver error. I just gotta find time to be carless for 3 days to have it all fixed under warranty .

I have not experienced any problems with my dealer ever, its weird because others who use the same dealer have had problems

got the stivo back today gears are changing better than evr before howevr its till tight going to any gear over 7,000 rpm.
they said to wear it in for a few days and then get back to em.
the report i have says..
vibration in gear lever
worn components
replaced gearshift lever cables as per campaign.
they also replaced the gear knob and boot.

if its not working still by monday itll be going back and they said they will remove the gearbox and look into it more.but the car will possibly be there for upto 3 weeks.

as getting a loan car i told em i wanted it fixed and wasnt happy with what was going on and that they should supply me a car and no cost. so they did.

also i wouldnt trust melbounre city toyota as far as i could throw em.
i first went there to se about prices on the stivo and they were pushing the hard sell aslwel and just spinning so much crap that i said im not interested.
so i went to cannon toyota who won dealer of the year last year and they were fantastic.no bull no hard sell and completely honest.(except about the gear issue lol)
anyway when i first spoke to cannon they didnt seem to interested until i mentioned that id spoken to someone from toyota australia and was told to get product report done and sent off.
then there whole additude changed they were super helfull.

so if people do the same thing it might work on other dealers to.
evryone with this issue should be goin into toyota dealers now and getting product reports done at the same time so toyota australia gets this information and can do somthing about it.

the guy i spoke to from toyota australia reckons its not uncommon for dealers to not mention the pruduct report so they can run there own race.
but if the report is issued toyota australia will look into it.

so get off ya asses guys and lets get this issue fixed once and for all.lol

I'm waiting for the parts to arrive at Nunawading. All I did was asked "if the gearbox was" and that's about as far as I got. Peter Mawby (the service guy) picked up the phone and got it happening.

Quite franky I'm not expecting the shift quality to improve but what the heck. If it does, great.

When i had a courtesy car, it was an 88 camry. it rattled to no end!!!! Be happy that u got something half decent rather than the oldest car in the lot!!!
