gday im having a problem with my gearbox it makes a real bad ticking noise while im in 3rd gear only,
as soon as i chnage from 2nd to 3rd the ticking sounds really bad...
its starting to sound like something has dropped off inside the gearbox.
any info would be great !!!

Sounds like maybe a bearing breakdown inside your box and/or some hard casing is impregnated into the 3rd gear set. try draining your oil and observe the magnet on the oil drain plug for build up of metal filings.
if the filings are course then there is a good chance you got a big problem developing.

Mechanically its not hard,but the weight of the gearbox and the lop sided weight of the t/case makes it difficult lying on your back.
A gearbox lifter will help .
I prefer to pay the 4-5 hours labour to remove/install the gearbox
