does this mean your forever wheel spinning?

my tsport (sportivo to you!) is forever spinning up, front end judders, lights flash on dash and then all returns to normal, with TC turned off things get a bit hairy!

How do you guys manage?

What tyres do you use? what pressure are they at etc?

I know in my previous car the recommended pressures were very odd, 28psi/36psi (was mid engine/rwd)... I dropped these to 26/32 and the handling and grip improved greatly!

I don't have a hand book for the CTS so don't even know the recommended pressures! can anyone help me out?

I think different tyre size, profiles and width call for diff optimum pressure depending on how you want your car to handle.

No TC is good because I get to go into LIFT oversteer!!!!




BTW, mine are 215/45/17 and pressure is 38psi on front and rears.

im running over twice the power to the wheels of a sportivo and am able to manage with simple throttle/clutch control .... im sure for all the n/a fella's it would be the same ..... simply flooring it in a bum dragger off a stand still is asking for u to go nowhere real fast.

in response im simply running toyo t1-r's all round in 205/50/16 with 34psi on front and 32psi on rear when cold.

ah yes, profiles, mine are 205/55/16

38psi? That seems vey high! have used 32psi in past on that profile but never 38?

I want a balance of grip and handling, its silly how easy it brakes traction but seems to handle well at whatever they are at now!

thanks xoom, ill have a look at trying those pressures, thought it may be around that area. i'm not doing any street racing style traffic light launches but even accelerating hard from 2500 or so seems to let loose, going in to lift in 1st, 2nd and sometimes 3rd seems to give a little flicer of traction intervention too.

I best sort this out before I refit my nitrous oxide kit and raise fly hp to about 265bhp

To me it sounds like you need some practice with the throttle. TC makes people lazy and is why I am against it. Drive around with it turned off and you'll be able to learn throttle control better. Unless it is always raining where you are, in which case you'll learn it faster

peh 265 fly hp i have that at the wheels and dont even get xoom started

tyre pressures are on the sticker in the glove box on our uk models.

get some decent tyres, my tc is always off in the dry- mine only spins in the wet but who drives like a loon in the wet? i can drop the clutch at 4krpm with no drama and the tc off. gotta love so3's!

interseting to see you guys running such high pressures - 32 recommended for under 100mph. i travel above that speed a lot and never increase tyre pressure as you will always do more driving under 100mph - am i missing a trick here? surely your reducing grip with overinflated tyres but reducing rolling resistance . i think i prefer grip?

I run those numbers because the different tyre shops that fitted my tyres says that is the profile's optimum operating pressure.

if so - traction control would do zero to prevent/enhance it
