I am in the market to recondition my Prado engine after it had only travelled 58,000k's. If you have any advise re: a recomended mechanic etc I would appreciate it.

How do they recondition an engine with a hole in the block? Can they weld a new section of alloy/etc back in to fill it?

if there is a hole in the side of the block = new block time ...... in all honesty it might b a cheaper option to get ur current engine completely removed and replaced ..... that way there is no mucking around and diagnosing with ur old engine .... plus given the oil situation that u had i dont know if u want to be putting anything back in ur car that was attached to ur old engine ..... just my 2c worth

I would be looking at a motor out of a low mileage wrecked one. Save a LOT of labour costs and provided there is a proper service history and the wreck hasnt been on its roof or side it should be fine.

it would definatly be cheaper to source a motor from a wrecked Prado - you may also like to put your engine up for sale even as it is with a hole in the block somebody may register interest in components that are unharmed etc.

Thank you for your recomendations, I have contacted "ENGINES PLUS" and they have an engine available with 89,000k's. Engine has been inspected and passed but my concern is that the engine does not have a service history. Should I be concerned???? I have been quoted for this engine $4,200 fitted.

for an engine with 90,000k's, it would be fairly easy to guage it's service history with a quick inspection. If it's been serviced regularly it will look brand new under the cam covers (silver alloy, not yellow/orange and definately no brown coloured deposits) and it will have a very consistent compresison check.
