Hi all I have a2zz automatic Toyota fielder that have been giving a bit of problems with the shift point.
When I got the car it used to shift at 8000rpm in auto mode but now it shifts at 7500rpm if I put it in tiptronic mode I can get it to shift at the 8000rpm once again but if I run the car for a while like this the “M” symbol on the dash starts to blink.
I initially thought it was the lift bolts and had them changed but with no luck.
I would be grateful for any input in helping me solve this problem
Thanks
jaderd
Hi Mate, welcome.....might not get alot of luck here as all our 2ZZ are manual 6 speed....someone on here may know more about auto's in general although im guessing its more of a lift / computer related thing

good luck

Sounds like an overheating auto tranny to me. I can't imagine an auto would like too many 8k shifts within a short space of each other. Maybe you should get the automatic transmission fluid changed for something better if you want to do that. The tranny cooler in the bottom of the radiator might not be good enough either, but you should be able to stick a remote cooler in somewhere else by lengthening the hoses.

Cheers, Gav.

Thanks guys I thought it could have been an overheating tranny but what would cause this to suddenly happen the car is about 4 years old and I run the hell out of it and yes I know it’s an auto but it still runs great, I change the oil ever 6000K the only thing I need to do is change the plugs and recommendation on what I should use?

M on the dash means M for Manual mode is my guess. If the M is flashing then I assume that it's telling you to shift into the next gear???
Maybe you need to get your transmission serviced...

The M is to indicate that you have changed for auto mode to manual only it does not indicate when to shift, if you don’t shift in time it will just hit the rev guard.
When you say service what are we talking about, what is done in a tranny service?

An Automatic Transmission service should, at minimum, include the following –

1. Old fluid must be drained out.
2. The transmission oil pan should be removed and cleaned.
3. The specialist will inspect the old oil and residue in the transmission oil pan for signs of metal filings or debris from the clutches which will indicate any internal damage or impending transmission problems.
4. The filter should be removed and cleaned. (Some transmissions have a "throw-away" filter in which case a new filter should be fitted).
5. The bands and controls (where applicable) must be checked and adjusted.
6. The filter must be refitted.
7. The transmission oil pan must be refitted using a new gasket.
8. The transmission must be filled with new transmission fluid.
9. The transmission should be checked for fluid leaks.
10. The car should be road tested to check the transmission operation.
