Required Tools
Spring compressors
6mm Allen key
xxmm spanner
19mm (or ¾”) socket
Breaker bar

Rear
1. Once the strut assembly has been removed from the car attach the spring compressors. Depending on how many coils your spring has this can be easy or hard. Refer to the coilover install threads below for how to remove and install the strut assemblies.
Corolla coilover install
Celica coilover install

2. The spring compressors will be hard to turn, so add a little oil to the threads and to the washer. Start tightening the spring compressors; rotate between the two to ensure the spring is compressed evenly if possible.

3. Once the spring is compressed the upper mount can be removed. Using the 6mm Allen key and xxmm spanner undo the nut holding the upper mount on. See picture below. If following a coilover install thread do not undo the spring compressors yet. If installing lowering springs undo the spring compressors. And load up the new spring to be installed.

4. Installation is the reverse of the above steps. The nut holding the upper mount to the strut has a torque setting of 55Nm. Refer to the coilover threads for all other torque settings.

3. Once the spring is compressed the upper mount can be removed. Pull out the rubber cap and remove excess grease. Use a 19mm socket for the nut. In order to stop the piston from spinning one of two tools will be required. For the Corolla I have made up the tool in the picture below. For the Celica wedge a long handled screw driver, or similar such device, behind one of the tabs to prevent it from spinning. The breaker bar will make things easier here. If following a coilover install thread do not undo the spring compressors yet. If installing lowering springs undo the spring compressors. And load up the new spring to be installed.

4. Installation is the reverse of the above steps. The nut holding the upper mount to the strut has a torque setting of 50Nm. Be sure to apply MP grease to the nut area. The same tools as before will be required. Refer to the coilover threads for all other torque settings.
