Quick question, when my car reaches the end of it's usable life will I make more money selling it as is to a car dismantiller or stripping it down myself and then selling on the parts?

in theory distmantilling your car at home would net u more cash, but u have to ask your self are u capable of dismantlling a complete car. when u sell a car to the wreckers they are deducting storage and labour costs plus another 40-50% of what cars worth and if its damages even more, so your not left with very much.

You have to ask yourself, do you want the car gone in one go, or over a potentially very long period of time? If time draws out you may need to store it well to keep rust out. Generally the most expensive parts of the car is the engine and gearbox, selling those to a reconditioner is pretty much what the wreckers do to recoup costs.

Sounds like I might be self-dismantalling...I would like to do it as I'm a bit of a wreckers yard junkie and like taking things apart to see how things work/are arranged.

Research car part sales first... Work out what you can salvage, sell and what you're gunna get...
For a running car in decent condition a wrecker will usually pay around $200...

i was going through same questions when getting rid of my old R31 skyline, i probably would have made some money if i dismantled it and sold parts, but it was too time consuming, took up too much room, so i ended up giving it to the Wreckers for $100
