i have what looks like a light sensor on my driver side dash( photo diode), near my windscreen, i have no idea what its for as my lights arn't auto
is there a way where i can hook up my lights to accessories and this sensor so if i go in a tunnel they switch on? then off when i go out of the tunnel, and i can turn them on and off the normal way with the stalk? does this make sense? do i need to take a picture of this thing, has anyone else wondered what this is?????
i might go through the wiring diagrams and plan it out if it may be possible...
note: i dont want to hook these straight to accessories so my lights are always on, ive already blown a ballest lol

Are you sure there is actually a sensor in there?
My sister's Mazda 3 has a round bulge in the front centre part of the dash where the light sensor goes in the upper models, but there is no sensor there. It's just there to fill in the space.
I would imagine yours may be the same since it makes sense not to put something in the car that is not used for cost efficiency reasons.
If the sensor is there though (or you manage to put one in there), you would actually need to get either a control ECU for it to tie into your lights, or you will need to make your own light operated circuit.

well there is that buldge thing dj lol, i assume there is one there... maybe i can rig something up with a photodiode and relays and stuff and see how we go, might get a wiring diagram for the ve commo at work and see if i can make it similar, will let you's know how i go, if anyone has done this let me know aye
Most, if not all automatic headlight controls use a specialised ECU. You won't get this from the wiring diagram unfortunately.
I'd say you're simplest and best bet is rigging up a 555 power-on delay circuit to trigger a relay for your headlights. This way you won't get it flickering on and off when you get some quick shade etc.

hmm do you have a pic of the sensor? the japan NZE121 has the auto light function
Your gonna kill the ballast faster if you have it constantly flicking on and off..

are you sure its not the climate control temp sensor
Yeah thats one of the two climate control temp sensors, not a light sensor.
