Full Version: Does a CAI make BIG Diff to the stivo
Toyota Owners Club - Australia > Toyota Models > Corolla / Corolla Sportivo
Ronny
Hi all,

I just picked up my Stivo 10 days ago, and till now, i oredi done 1000+ km on the clock....my first 1000 service will be tomorrow..hehe..anyway...i m quite happy with the speed and power which the VVTL-i engine delivers. After reading most of the posts in the forum, i think it is the time for me to modify a little bit to my stivo.

First thing i wanna get outta it is performance. I just wana know does it make Big diff if i get the CAI installed. How much would it cost me roughly include installation and how many Kw gain will i get after installing it...this is the main issue i wanna find out.

Also any recommendation about the CAI u guys can given me...coz i m not really good in modifying. Does it go faster than wot it should be...say acceleration and top spd after installing it.....

Hope u all can help me out...

Cheers

Yes, TRD CAI with an ITG filter, best combo, recommended by quite a few peoples on this forum.
overloade
Myabe a bit off topic, but does it really worth to mod such new car? Because i am getting my car soon. Or it really doens't matter just make sure don't voild warranty?
CAP
It's just a personal thing and what people are happy with.
To date I've never had any problems with the dealers and the changes I've made.
In fact last two times I've serviced at MCT, they complemented me on the car and also when I went to pick up my car, It was parked at the very front of the Service Department instead of the back as usual smile.gif
Pippy
YES~ and YES~!

oz_viking

how does the CAI go with the 1zz? does it make a big difference like it does on the sportivo?
CAP
Yes just ask Skitzo(TRD), Danz(AEM) and Northy(TRD)

a jump from 76.1 kw to 91.6kw, that's an olympic level high jump champion.

That increase isn't just from the CAI though...
DANZZT231
you're right, there is a synergy from both my exhaust system and my CAI

when I got my exhaust mod, i achieve low end power with 1.1kw increase top end, resulting in a net 76.1kw. Then added CAI, the net result jump to 91.6kw.

SILVABULLIT
For the CAI to be totally effective and make good increases in power you also have to do the exhaust. If you can afford it a CES cat back system will cost you $960 plus freight and give you +/- 9kw atw. Add a TRD CAI for about $550 (not sure of exact price) and you'll have about 112-117kw atw. From standard that's about a 20kw gain for say $1500 and the car will sound the goods and have more power low down as well as top end.

All depends on how much you got to spend, but I'd definatley go with the TRD CAI.

Worth trying is Injen RD intake
Skitzo
The TRD cold air intake gives 90hp more. Resulting in my car having 320hp at the wheels and consistantly running 11 seconds down the track. biggrin.gif

*back to reality*

It made the car have a funny noise that I liked... and... increased power a little... and.... pulled a lot harder than stock. Personally I would suggest this as the #1 mod to do to a corolla as you really do get bang for your buck (even though the buck isn't quite as low as we all would like)

It has also been scientifically proven that red is a faster colour, thus the TRD cold air intake is 50% better than the rest. laugh.gif

how about i got a simota and paint it red? wouls it be as good as the TRD's?

i think the only thing i hate about the trd cai is u need u throw away the pod included in the system, right? and tht i don't like..throwing away my money for nothing.

anybody knows about blitz or where to get it? gain?

If you painted it candy apple red then im sure it could pull more than the TRD cold air intake then. tongue.gif

I'm still using the TRD pod.. works just fine, never had a problem with it at all.

Look on ebay for a blitz one? I'm pretty sure all the cold air intakes gain would be roughly the same, TRD may have more advantage due to specialising in toyotas but it would be unlikely it would be a huge amount of difference.

when i took off my magnaflow, i noticed that the last 500revs were painfully slower.
