Just thought I'd start this thread seeing as there's not a soul who has mentioned the mighty hilux!!!

What's everyone think of the new one? I think it looks sweet..

Anyways where are the hilux owners at? I mean come on people u see them dumped on the ground dragging their asses on big chromes all over the place...
MR22ZZ
I want one!!!
CAP
I think the new shape looks good in 4WD but not so good in 2WD, the front overhang is very long and looks a bit weird when it's closer to the ground, But lift it up and put a set of 36's under those wheel arches and it looks tonka tough!
Pippy
i drove the older 2.7EFI one for work, its a single cab 2WD.

its called a workmate i think...

all i can say is... it drives like a car, and is real easy to put sideways!! biggrin.gif

haha~ (esp in the rain!)

we used to have the previous model..

now...we have the new VVT-i 2.7 hilux.

alot better than the old one....the old one was so rough..

the new one is a lto more refined...looks a bit....so so..coz of all the plastic bits on the front..

goes a little bit better too..

Yeah I gotta agree mate, its not as workman as it was before eh? Kind of reminds me of that nissan navara thing, i cant remember wat u call it, but yeh its plastic everywhere wit the big alloy roll bar thing that wouldnt really do anything anyway... looks just like a meaner honda cr-v aha...

Used have a 2.0 litre (18R engine) 'lux - that would go side ways in the wet too, but struggled on the slightest grade!

Try the 4.0 V6, or the new TD (if you tow). That'll make ya rethink the 2.7L performance.
Mr Revhead
we have a v6 one done up with sportsbar and nudge bar on 18" chromes. looks quite good. goes well to. but not as well as my aw11 biggrin.gif

We got our SR5 diesel a couple of months ago. Lucked in and our car was delivered with the engine and spec upgrade that happened around Sept 06 (a little more power, and some more 'bits and pieces').

I hadn't realised though, that a Hilux is more of a kit car than the usual factory offerings. As soon as we took delivery,we started changing things. Seats were the first.....

Since then, we've had a second battery installed. Hella spotlights. It's going in today for installation of a combined navigation and sound system, as well as UHF CB. Long range fuel tank next week. Canopy in a couple of months. And then it will be off for a drive to northwest oz.

looks good jb747!
i wouldnt mind doing a seat change in mine, but kinda like the bench thats in the manual. i guess i could change the drivers and get the bench re-trimed.

Ok, so my Dad has an 07 work mate 4x2 V6 petrol, it's awesome, drives and feels like a car, and sits at 140 - 150 kph quite comfortably.

My brother has a 07 SR5 4x4 dual cab V6 petrol, It too is great on the road, and has no prob off road too...

I've just bought myself a brand new SR 4x4 V6 petrol dual cab... I haven't driven it, nor taken delivery of it yet (7 jan 08) but I expect it to be equally good too...

In short, I love them...
HI2DLX
my old man has an 07 dual cap hilux non 4x4 manual petrol! goes great! reciently got it back from the panel beater after geting a new front grill.

JWR57

Love the new Lux! I've got a '92 model and it just keeps on truckin. I'm in the market for a new car and have decided on the SR Single Cab pickup v6. However I have a question nobody seems to be able to answer?

WHAT IS THE 0-100KM/HR TIME?

I've owned a few sports cars (last one was Honda S2000) and 175kW of power is pretty decent in fact on par with the s2000! I realize that its not a sports car and is geared differently (in more ways than one) but it seems to have a tonne of potential. The TRD concept SR5 is supercharged and pulls sub 7.5secs, however that is the large heavy 4x4 dualcab. Surely the lighter single cab could do sub 6.5secs with the right mods? I'm interested to know if anyone has any thoughts or knowledge on the matter? I'm not a rev head but it'd be nice to shut down some of these posers in their Holden & Ford utes!

PS: I find it hilarious that people seem to be selling used Hilux's for more than new dealer costs! Check out Carpoint, am I missing something here?

This topic might be a bit dead now, but i thought i would post here, as i only own a 2000 Dual Cab 4x2 Hilux.

First car ( yahoo.gif ), brought about two months ago. haven't done any upgrades to it as of yet, but am trying to find a nice chrome grill for it.

I have upgraded the Tape Deck to a nice Pioneer CD player. I have also upgraded the front speakers with 2 x 200W Pioneer 6" Speakers. I have another set of these for the rear, but i am unable to put these in, as i am missing the rubber boots from the inside of the doors to protect the cables. Anyone have any idea where I am able to get 2 of these (Genuine Toyota)?

Whilst putting the rear speakers in, i will be fitting the car with remote central locking for ease of use....

I have attached a picture of what it looked liked when I picked it up from the Dealer.

Happy Cruising!

Hi guys & girls,

I've got a couple of questions for you.

I own a 99 4WD Toyota Hilux 2.7Ltr SR5 and have owned it for 4 years and it currently has 220 000 ks on it and still going strong , My wife and I love it and couldn't ask for a better car.

Right now for the questions.

I have been thinking of getting some extractors\headers for my car and have found Hurricane headers. The person I spoke to also advised to replace the muffler for a more free flowing one. All up it is going to cost $600 which sounds pretty good to me. Has anyone had this done to there Hilux and if so was there a difference in power and fuel consumption. Good or Bad?

The other question is about engine oil. I have been running 10\30 Nullon engine oil for a while now and have found it to be really good. I have tried 10\40 a number of time also but found that the car didnt like it to much. Is 10\30 the recommended oil? and what are YOU people out there in FORUM WORLD using in their Toyota Hilux's?

Thks cool.gif smile.gif
~Dj Dirty
.. and now 33's YEOW.. Loves it.. Gets so many looks when cruisin round!

Hi all.
New to this forum.
I have two Toyotas. A 2008 Hilux 4x4 S/C 3.0lt Turbo Diesel and a RAV4 2005 model.
Love em both to death "Oh what a feeling"
I traded a 1998 3.0lt diesel Hilux after having it for 10 years. Apart from new tyres, just normal servicing was done on it.

G'day peoples,

Time for another resurrection in this hilux forum.

I am new to this site and I just recently got a 97 hilux 3L diesel dual cab. T'was stock except from bullbar/towbar/uhf/spotties/etc.

1st stage of stereo system has been finished(for now) next stage is to get a slight bit more under the bonnet.
As I am on a bit tight on coin I want to get power(mainly keeping revs on hills, dunes, etc) on a budget. Heard about hi-clones but also want to speak to anyone who has installed them and if they were worth the money.

If anyone has any other suggestions I would like to here them.

Cheers,

Chad.
Tradewind
Yeah well another Hilux owner here, got the '06 Extra cab V6 Auto 2WD ute, goes like stink for a stock ute. Colour is White and has covered 130 000kms

What I know so far

Fuel Economy highway: 10km per liter, very suprised at this but seems repeatable anytime I try it

Around town economy: 7 - 8km per liter

Power: dyno'd at 173Hp at the wheels - very good

0-100 times: Impossible to get any real figure, if you boot it from a standing start it will spin the first 2 gears before hooking up everytime, very quick, will whip a stock BF turbo Falcon up to 80kmh, definitely going to add more Hp right away tho.

Comfortable enough for a Hilux, drives very well, very scary braking in the wet on the stock rubber - DANGEROUS/no ABS on this model.

Well built and problem free so far as problems go, motor is just as "ticky" as most 1GRFEs are, not the quietest at idle but near silent in the cabin at almost any speed.

Mods to come:

Maybe wheels and tyres upgrade to something pretty cool

Engine mods, lots of these, this motor is ripe for sweet upgrades that work within the limits of the open deck engine block (not super strong)

Maybe some graphics too.
