Was wondering has anyone had there heads port and polished? I gave meridian motorsport in melbourne a ring and they said you can get gains but they have only done celicas and apprently there heads are slightly different, plus they quoted me quite a bit to get it done on my rolla (1500) so is that the norm price and is it worth doing? Or just getting a high flow cat?

I guess it depends on how you far you want to take your rolla. I will be getting it done as soon as my warranty is up. $1500 clams seems a little steep so do some more shopping around. As for the high flow cat, what other mods have you done so far as this will probably determine whether or not the cat is the way to go right now! And while your in the mood for porting have you considered the throttle body and intake manifold? Just a thought.

$1500 for a quality job seems fair, I'm assuming the head is removed from the car for the porting? Which means you have that labour to remove/replace the head + new headgasket and other consumables included.

that quote was to port polish intake and throttle body they couldnt give me a definate price until i tell them how far i want to go with it. They said $650 for just a basic port match on the intake but to get a "race type" set-up done im looking at spending $$$ id rather pay a little more cause i know they specialise in stivo engines and they race them too. Any of you melb guys know anyone just as good and a little cheaper? Currently just about to get a Injen intake and changing the muffler to dual tip.

If the quote included all that then I say go for it. Did they mention what sort of gains they have achieved previously?

I think it's less resistance and larger capacity for greater air flow.

answer: they increase and match perfectly your intake and port sizes on your manifold and throttle body assembly to decrease air flow resistance and increase flow

meridian said i could get it to high 175hp range but im a little skeptical on that without also doing some ecu mods

$1500 for a good port job seems fair as it's a hell of a lot of hours to do it properly. What other mods have you got? I would be going with something other than Injen as 2.5" pipe is too small for the 2zz intake as I've been testing for the last 3-4 weeks.

2.5" is ok till the top end of the low cam then it starts to struggle for air flow. Lift kicks in and it level pegs the TRD intake but by the time you hit 7000rpm the power just drops off dramatically. The pipe diameter just cannot flow enough air to the engine.

Before you get the head done I'd be looking at headers, exhaust, intake then get the head ported and match the manifolds(exhaust and intake) to get the best result. From what I've read the intake side of the head is pretty good but the exhaust ports is where the gain is to be made. I wouldn't worry about spending the extra dollars on a high flow cat as the gains are so minimal that you can't justify the money. The cat on the stivo is actually very good and will flow more than enough for what most of us are planning to do with the car.

I spoke to Trevor last week, he showed me the graphs (yes there is proof). VERY IMPRESSIVE! I have already put my name down for this.

i was told just port and polish the exuast manifold would be sufficiant because the manifold is alreday good enough according to meridian, but then i hear when i get the cold air intake that it might be best to also get the intake matched and polished. So silva not and Injen fan? was originally between the TRD and AEM but was told Injen are better, (ok not starting that debate again with CAI). Il do some more phoning around but its hard to find people who actually work on our cars in melb.

A port and polish is something I may be interested in.

Prob find out if you can get a group discount.

Now i'm pretty sure a port and polish will void your warranty, but it is likely Toyota will never know unless they have to pull apart your engine/exhaust for some reason and thats if they can tell its been port matched.

Also then maybe it also doesnt void your since all your doing fixing the factory mismatches, and improving flow.

Lol believe me it will void warranty as you are not fixing, you are opening, and they see it as messing around. But you knew that.

how will they know, well the toyota technical dept in sydney read the forums, dont belive me do somthing that voids your warranty try for a claim and get told about the days current events on the forums

So obviously then they knew about all the clutch problems you guys were having earlier on. "What clutch problem, we've heard of no such issue"

Interesting, I'm glad my engine is still stock. But yeah its prob not a good idea to post up your mods if they can identify your car. Prob rub out you number plate on any pics as a start, as per my garage.
