Hi there,

I have a corolla AE80 with a 2A engine. The starter motor was dead several days ago. I bought a Gregory's service maual and couldn't follow what is said in the book. "Remove the starter motor retaining bolts and remove the starter motor from the vehicle". But I can't find the bolts. And is the starter motor for the 4A engine same with that for the 2A engine?

Cheers,
Zheng

the bolts holding the starter motor in go through the gearbox bellhousing. 2x 14mm or 12mm bolts.

Dont forget to disconnect the battery first, and then disconnect the starter's +12V feed from the battery and the start trigger wire which clips in.

Thanks! replaced a new one this morning.

But new problem comes. Can only start it by repeatedly trying. Seems something wrong with the electrical. Keep investigating. sad.gif

Thanks again for your reply.

check your battery voltage, clean the battery terminals, make sure your ground straps are secure, make sure the cable from the starter to the battery is securely fastened.

Problem was solved! The previous owner installed a switch (not Ignition Switches) between the starter motor and the battery and it is not always working. Did some soldering work and problem was solved.
Thanks again for your help, rollamods.
