  1. Hey all Just wondering if na starlet starter motors are same as el44 paseo Mine is playing up And not many paseo at wreckers at the moment. Are manual and auto ones the same. And aint got money for new one at moment. Just tgought id do some research first Thanks
  2. Hey all my el44 paseo idles bit rough when warm and doesn't alway start when turn ignition over usually when cold. Just hear fuel pump prime and no ignition second time it usually starts I'm guessing coil might be on way out as its done 330k are they hard to remove from the dizzy as there is a massive price difference in just the coil and complete dizzy thanks
  3. Cool thanks there are numbers on dizzy cap
  4. Hey Guys, my car has a rough idle just want to check my ignition leads were put back in right order from dizzy to each cylinder any one got a pic or something Thanks

  6. finally think i sorted it after doing some research online read pcv valves can cause this when there faulty. so i tried changing it + the grommet seems ok now underload - uphills on hot days or with aircon on doesn't do it anymore, plug colour looks more healthy too no longer frosty white with melted electrodes. just wish they would have changed this $12 part when they replaced my main seal when they did the clutch or when they did timing belt when they had to replace other oil seals all new seals gone already because of the faulty pcv sigh :/ now all have to be done again got big oil leaks
  7. Hey cheers for info yeah I cleaned and regreased slide pins when overhauled calipers. Loosened the handbrake as much as could helped but Lhs was still rubbing when turn hard right. i got fed up with it took to brake place they had to put shims in to space it out as the Lhs caliper was too close to disc also there are supposed to have inner and outer clips for pads mine were all outers so they had to mod them. Because they were scraping too. That's why sounded like bearing when clip hit slots in disc seems someone effed around it before I got it from wreckers. Sigh But seems ok now. But what Ive gained in braking I've prob gained more weight haha. Time for engine conversion haha
  8. So been awhile since my first post on this one. Finally decided to install this rear axle with disc brakes on my car during the Xmas New Years break. As car is a daily and haven't had time. Me and dad decided to smash it and get it done. After lots of work. Always takes longer than you think sigh ( holidays now almost over haha) Repainted rear axle New wheel bearings Overhauled calipers with new seals and new Pistons etc Cleaned and painted callipers After lots of swearing and sunburn the rear axle is in car Installed it last night. Weird thing is the hand brake wasn't engaging in Lhs. So left it over night tried it today now working. Mysteriously But Lhs is brakes are dragging when driving And when turn hard right like when going around a round about get a clicking noise from Lhs rear brakes. I'm guessing wheel bearing isn't tight enough. Or is it too tight? Car is driving me insane. Just seeing what you guys reckon Thanks
  9. Yea went to wreckers other weekend. Looks like starlet radiator different skinner. Only has one core as paseo one has 2 cores. I found one at wreckers cleaned it all up. And of course it leaks from top tank too. Looks like an aftermarket one is the go but think they all have the stupid automatic trans cooler pipes.
  10. Hey all, Yesterday noticed my coolant overflow Bottle was completely drained. The other day thought could smell coolant. Turns out I got a few hairline cracks in the top Tank of radiator. Dam plastic. I rang toyota there not available anymore. I assume they can't be fixed as there plastic not like the good old copper ones. Just wondering if starlet ones are the same as wreckers only has one paseo ATM. And need to so something about it ASAP. I see eBay has some but there for el54. Thanks
  11. Finally put the replacement drive shaft in Seems alright now. I basically worked out spent an additional $400 in trying to diagnose the issue. And in the end no one diagnosed so had to do it myself. And now I rang atap ( australian truck an auto parts) and said I can't make a claim for compensation as I have no proof the driveshaft was faulty. And asked them where the old one is? they put it in bin apparently. Wtf So I can't make a claim for compensation on costs because they disposed of the evidence. I would recommend people stay away from protex driveshafts for there Paseos and stay away from the company atap. Dodgy as :/
  12. I put a set of cooler plugs bkr6eya plugs in. Same gap 1.1mm Seem to feel a lot better now alot less pinging and plugs look healthier. The hotter bkr6eya plugs the electrode would melt down after being in car for few 1000kms Will post pics maybe sometime.
  13. Thanks for the quick responses What plugs u suggest I'm running Ngk BKR5EYA ( v cut electrode ) 1.1mm gap I've also tried Bosch platinum plugs they do same thing and go all frosty white.change them every 10 thousand Km's. yea might get someone to do the dizzy I have no idea with timing, thought the mechanic would've done that when they changed the dizzy o ring. Still leaking oil too :( Sorry my bad they were talkin about leaded fuel in manual damaging cat.
  14. Hey all, Just a quick question Something that's been bugging me since I bought my EL44 paseo quite few years ago. Basically it use to ping a lot My friend suggested running 98 Even though manual says 91 98 prob gonna stuff my cat tho A lot less pinging. But on really hot days. Still pings badly up hills. Also for long time the plugs have been frosty white. Lean I guess. Just wondering if anyone has this problem too. And has anything to suggest? Even when got timing belt done awhile ago didn't help. Due to be done again soon. I know my mums starlet does ping too on 91 Haven't checked her plugs tho. Think they were an ok colour last time I looked. Is it common for 4efe and 5efe engines to do this. Cheers
  15. So finally Sussed out problem the other week The long driver side drive shaft was at fault Causing really bad vibration at 100km. Or 70km underload big load up hill. So much time and money wasted to figure out the problem. And still had to find the problem myself :/ I put the original driveshaft back in on driver side been smooth ever since. They have sent me new one to put in but haven't put it in yet. I assuming will do the same thing. As I've been telling every mechanic it's prob because there's no rubber dampner on the protek one. Doesn't need it they all say. Why are they put on the own ones. Should payed the extra money to have my old ones reconned. Grr would've worked out cheaper in the end.
