  1. Need some advice on a couple of issues: 1. 2000 Spyder idles low at times. Sometimes as low as 400rpm and on the verge of stalling but doesn’t stall or at least I haven’t let it try stalling. When you turn the A/c on, it goes up to about 800rpm. Throttle body was cleaned a few years back. No warning lights and no error codes scanned. Thought maybe it’s the MAF but it doesn’t seem like a MAF causing issue. HPU was replaced 3 years ago as was the ECU. 2. I have been running 205/40R17’s all round on the car and, unfortunately, this tyre size doesnt come in the correct load rating for the car. The max load rating for these sized tyres is 86W but that is for a crappy Maxis and I have o confidence in Maxxis. Am I OK to go into a 215 sized tyre or will it rub on the struts? As you know the Spyder has a 83 load rating on the front and 86 on the rears so fitting anything under these ratings would be illegal and thus void your insurance if an accident happens Any assistance would be great.
  2. Yep and that is only for the top half of the Servo Housing. Ive never experienced the ECU reset issue and I have, on many ocassions, disconnected my battery and gone away for 6 or so months.
  3. Yes, my Spyder died 2 weeks ago (stuck in gear and wouldnt disengage or start) and to date, they have told me that the issue is not mechanical. A call yesterday advised me that it may be something called the Servo housing which controls all the moving parts of the transmission and allows gear shifting. Part alone is $3000 if that is, indeed, the fault
  4. Had to replace the ECU in my car and also the HPU. The Hydraulic Power Unit controls the gear changes. Painful to get parts but also expensive. Usually Ex Japan. The HPU sits under the Air FIlter box. If that leaks and your unit doesnt pressure, you wont be able to shift gears or the car will stall
  5. I am interested in a good set of 15" OEM wheels for my Spyder. It currently has a set of 17" wheels with 205/40R17 Dunlop Sport Maxx fitted. Trying to get my SPyder back to factory equipment. Anyone out there who is considering swapping out their OEM wheels for 17" wheels?
  6. Currently running 205/40R17 but recently I found out that they were illegal because they dont meet the load ratings thats why i need more than 85 load rating tyres
  7. I cannot find a 205/40R17 tyre that has a load rating higher than 84. Does anyone know of this tyre size with a 85 or higher load rating that is good? Thanks
  8. Looking to buy OEM 00/04 MR2 Spyder wheels in good condition Tyres? Dont need them. Im located in SA Thanks
  9. The 15mm refers to the Rolling Diameter (RD) of the wheel. Eg the OEM wheel runs 205/50R15 which gives it a RD of 586mm. The 215/40R17 gives a RD of 603.8mm. The difference is 17mm hence in just about every state in Aust, it is illegal and while no one would say Boo 9 out of 10 times, if an accident was to occur, the insurance could get really technical and say that the tyres were illegal and not pay out. That's why i am trying to stay within the allowed 15mm range. Dont suppose you have the OEM wheels to sell?
  10. Thanks for the reply but the 215/40R17 is 18mm over which makes it illegal I was hoping that would work but the stores wont fit it from a legal perspecive
  11. OK I have a dilemma and would like some feedback. I currently have 17" wheels on my Spyder running 205/40R17 84W tyres. I have since found out that the rear tyres are illegal because on the OEM tyre plycard, it states that the rears must have a minimum load rated tyre of no less than 85. I cant put a wider tyre on like a 225/35R17 because my 17" wheel is only 7" wide and the min required wheel for that tyre is 8" wide There are no 205/40R17 tyres in Australia with that load rating and I dont really want to change all my wheels again nor do I want to have different looking wheels front and rear. So, should i just go back to the OEM 15" wheels that came with the car and stop using my 17" wheels? What are the advantages/disadvantages or re-fitting the 15" wheels to my Spyder after running 17" wheels for as long as I can remember? Any advice? Thanks
  12. Hi All, I am trying to get information on a couple of issues: 1. How hard will it be for me to swap my Power Antenna for a Stubby Antenna? I have limited knowledge or experience with cars etc. 2. Does anyone know where I can buy a driver and passenger interior sun visor with all the necessary screws to attach it etc? I have been trying to get these for a long time but often over priced from Toyota Australia 3. Does anyone know where I can buy a Cold Air Intake pipe? The hose that connects the air intake to the air filter box? I believe it's like an elbow shape pipe and sits under the radiator coolant reservoir Thank you

    HELP!!

Hi Are you still looking for a Spyder? Im considering selling mine. Can send pictures if you are keen Also, dont worry about that comment regarding precats. If it was an issue, Toyota would have done a recall plus practically and logically, the engine blows air out of the exhaust so it would be rather hard to suck air in. I have address this issue directly with Neil Bates and he said that some people are paranoid and if it has happened to someone before, It's because they have dont too many mods to their car hence the engine problems Family related reasons so have to sell as a 2 seater car is not practical anymore for us
  14. Anyone know of any longterm problems with the Spyder that could end up costing a lot of money? I am looking at a 2000 Spyder and it's fantastic to drive and in great condition but has there been any major issues or concerns with a 10 year old Spyder? This particular one has had a new gear box 12 months ago and also a new electronic circuit board that controls the SMT installed by Toyota 12 months ago as well. So sounds like gear wise, its all good Any and all advice would be greatly appreciated Thanks
  15. I have been experiencing a low engine idle and I mean like 400rpm when im sitting at the lights. Usually happens when engine is hot not cold and once it even stalled but started straight away with no problems. Also Check Engine light has come on a couple of times this week but when I stop the car and turn engine off then on again, the light disappears. When the light is on, the car still drive fine. Took car to Toyota and they said that the seq transmission is leaking, very low on oil and is likely to be the cause of the above two issues. They said the plugged the car into their computer analyzer and it didnt show anything wrong with engine that would cause Check Engine light. Comments and thoughts?
