  1. I've had this now and then (2003 V6 manual Sportivo) - there are a few electrical phantoms with it besides this. Oh well, I'll keep driving it anyway. Electrical stuff is real difficult to remedy on modern cars as finding the culprit is like a needle in a haystack!
  2. I bought a 2003 Sportivo V6 + 5sp manual with ~50,000 klms on the clock for $14,500 driveaway from a Toyota dealer. Had some dents here and there but with 12mnth rego and new Yohohama Advans fitted it seemed like a good price. Clocked up ~10,000klms since and alls been well except for a weird electrical thing that happens every now and then. Engine has been fine and smooth. I reckon the Avalons look really dated and you'd have to wear a hat and cardigan in it...they are usually in great nick as the old folks bought them and didn't drive much - engine is the same as the V6 Camry too. Sportivo is the best choice I'd reckon and prices are coming down further...
  3. 99% of car enthusiasts will disagree with you ..... and Mr. Sheen is worse.
  4. Sorry I can't help but i have an unusual electrical issue with my 03 Camry too... think there is something with the electrics on this model year on a number of cars... you could always leave it unlocked until it's sorted?
  5. Happened again on the way home from work - about 20mins into the journey home and hit the brakes and the headlights dipped off then on - turned on the indicator and they and the radio cut out. Turned the car off and restarted it at the lights and it went away for the rest of the drive home - this is weird - it's like an electrical short perhaps caused by the engine management system or similar.. what tha'... :( - due for it's 60,000klm service now so with ask Toyota what they think it may be...
  6. I wouldn't use ArmourAll on anything - it's no good. I find a wet chamois the best thing to wipe down the interior, a good vacuum and a handwash with a quality car wash once a month is all that is required (more often if your car is parked outside all the time). I read somewhere that the 02-06 Camry was voted the quickest and easiest car to wash by the USA Car Wash Association -
  7. Got Yokohamas on my 03 S'Tivo and they are great! Bit too cold and dark at the mo' to get the model but really happy with these...

    That's the Hi-CamLux
  9. Have heard of replacement alternators being required for the 02 - 06 models but it usually should last the life of the car. Any symptoms like radio/engine cutting out briefly (like mine)?
  10. How do you get or keep your headlights as crystal clear as that! Mine seem to have marks inside them...
  11. Don't do what my ol' mate did and fill it with oil until he could see it at the top of the engine ! He wondered why it was hard to start and blew clouds of smoke out the back... 1/ Grab a rag 2/ Take out the dipstick and clean it and put it back in (make sure it's all the way down otherwise it will give you an incorrect reading) 3/ Take out again and check the level against the markings on the dipstick 4/ Add oil and recheck as you go using the same procedure for 2-4. DO NOT OVERFILL!! Can be just as bad as not enough oil and as said before make sure the engine is warm and has sat for 10-20mins and that the car is on a level surface.
  12. Hi and thanks for the response and will check the grounding. There is nothing aftermarket fitted except new terminals and battery. It's really stange as it's gone away (for now).
  13. Hi all, I have a 2003 V6 Camry Sportivo with almost 60,000klms on the clock. Had it for about 6 months and bought it from a local Toyota dealer (Cannon). Has had 2 previous owners who obviously didn't drive it much. I have experienced occasionally whilst driving that the lights, radio and engine cut out intermittently for a second or two then come back on - happens when I hit the brakes and/or turning on the indicators. It's obviously an electrical issue and there is service history mentioning the issue - it's also had a new battery and terminals fitted presumably to attempt to rectify the problem. It happens every now and again - drove all the way to Adelaide and back without an issue (?!). If I swtich off and restart it tends to go away also (ECU?) Can anybody shed some light on what may be causing this? Have searched the forum and it is mentioned in other 2003 models but without a cure. Haven't tried the dealer as yet as it only happens now and then and unlikley when being serviced next. Any info would be appreciated - love the car however and being a 5sp it's fun to drive with enough power. We also have an 2005 Avensis Verso which is a real family work horse and been a great car too. Cheers - Andrew
  14. My '03 Sportivo had the same problem according to the previous owners documents/reciepts. Had a new battery and terminals fitted to rectify as even the dealer couldn't work out the issue. Anyway since I'v owned it is hasn't done it to me so perhaps a new battery may help. Cheers.
  15. Depending on your budget from experience go for as modern as you can afford - plenty of good updates to post '01 Camrys and for not much extra $. In my case was looking at '99 onward but managed to find a good '03 for not a lot more - some good deals out there at the moment on 2nd hand cars..got for the V6 too - more options and a smoother engine. Good luck.
