  1. And what about the window tint (original defect), what did you do?
  2. I agree with the above comment on the Yokohama cdrive2
  3. I went and spoke with the mechanic first thing Monday morning after (just a couple of streets away) explained what had happened, and he said there was no problem as there is a baffle under the PCV hole, and it would just sit in there and won't cause any blockage. So I came home to insert the new valve adding a little machine oil to lubricate the grommet, I couldn't get it in fully, and I wasn't going to press my luck in case I snapped it. So I drove the car down to the mechanic with the PCV valve half in and out, and it took him a few goes with a large screwdriver to get it in. I have had no problems since, even with the broken bit still in there and the car breathes so much better after replacing. Why does Toyota make things so difficult to change compared with previous vehicles Mitsubishi, Ford and Holden.
  4. I was replacing the PCV valve on my '99 Camry V6 1MZ-FE as it has never been replaced since new (I've owned it 4yrs).The top section and part of the main shaft of the valve broke off, leaving the bottom main shaft valve section, internal metal stem and spring and grommet in the valve cover. I removed the stem and spring, and then proceeded to remove the bottom section. The top grommet seal had seized to the valve cover. I was levering around the seal to help release the grommet, but small bits were breaking off as they have become brittle. I continued trying to remove the remaining grommet and valve, but both the bottom valve and grommet fell inside the valve cover. I have left the pcv hole on the valve cover open as well as the connecting rubber tube. I can't contact my mechanic until Monday morning, and just would like to know in the meantime the consequences of what has happened and what options if any.
  5. The 4 cyl 2.2lt engine is the 5S-FE, where the 6 cyl 3.0lt is the 1MZ-FE
  6. I bought this model with the 3lt V6 in 8/2010. The car only had 110,000k's, and was in good condition for it's age. As the vehicle was over 11yrs old with the mileage well under the 150,000k's, and no evidence of the timing belt and other associated parts having been replaced at the 10 yr mark. So I had the timing belt, water pump and bearings changed and used Toyota coolant. This cost was around $1,000 and the was work done by my mechanic. I also had the auto-transmission serviced as the transmission fluid was black. The transmission had never been serviced as the original gaskets were still present. I'm from old school where transmissions need to be serviced regularly, not lifetime free service. This work was done by Auto transmission place. Since owning the vehicle, I've had no problems of any major faults. As I only do low mileage, around 6,000k's per year of inner Sydney driving of start/stopping, with the occasional long drive of around 160k's. The vehicle is serviced regularly every 6 months, and I'm using Valvoline Engine Armour 15W-40 Synthetic oil.
  7. I'm not that electrically minded, but I'll throw these ideas out there. The wires solded to the left reversing light, if correctly connected, when you put the car in reverse the camera would be on, I would imagine a small light would show for ON. Is there a on/off switch on the camera? The AV cord from the camera, is that what has been soldered to the wire labelled BACK? Is there is no AV input connection on the screen for a rear camera. Could it be resistance with the soldering. I did a quick Google and came across this website for installing rear camera. One thing it mentions in its Tricks and Warning - "You must have the rear-view monitor set up and installed correctly to receive the video signal from the rear-view camera". http://www.ehow.com/how_2026378_install-camera-car.html Hope some of this helps.
  8. I don't have a reversing camera, only a front camera which I installed. Is the AV cable plugged into the correct connections (screen/camera)? That is what I believe the screen showing plugs is about. My front camera which uses a SD card has 3 connections (power, Video output, External GPS), so I would think that the rear camera would also have more then one connection to it. Recheck your connections at both the rear camera and screen.
  9. What was the context of the verbal agreement! Unless it was just pay for the car without any paperwork (hard to believe) the 3 months warranty stuff would be mentioned on the paperwork. If not, I would be reporting the dealer to your State's Consumer Affairs.
  10. I had purchased the Haynes manual for my 1999 Camry Wagon (same engine), but it did not cover much about the wagons electrics at the back, as the manual is US based. So I contacted Haynes by email, and after some searching on their part, emailed the sections of the manual that was not included. I suggest you contact Haynes and ask if they can provide you the information on the VVT-i, as it is not covered in the manual.
  11. Depending on the part(s) required, I use www.rockauto.com to purchase parts for my 1999 Camry. If the part is either large or heavy, don't bother as postage would be high, buy it locally, but if they are either light or smallish then consider from overseas. I had purchased 6 iridium spark plugs and even with postage, still saved over $40Aus to what they would cost here.
  12. I have a 1999 Camry V6 same engine and the timing belt interval is 150k. Spark plugs are 100k.
  13. The Garage is only protecting their business. They found defects and not passed the car. How long ago did you buy the car. I believe in NSW, a vehicle bought from a Dealer automatcially comes with 3 months warranty. So if still within the 3 months, I would take the car back to the Dealer to fix the problem with the rack. The tyres will be at your cost, as tyres are not normally covered.
  14. Here you go: http://www.transport.wa.gov.au/licensing/21328.asp There is a Demerit Points Hotline for WA 1300 720 111 (which is displayed on the website above).
  15. Each State and Territory have their own penalties and demerit points system for traffic offences. You would need to contact or visit the website of your fathers State Authority to find the answer.
