  1. Thanks Ashley, the car currently has 130 000 kms.The throttle body was cleaned ,and new oil/oil filter and air filter. thanks for your advice about the PCV too.I will check out your recommendations. Cheers. Dave.
  2. Hi, I have been getting some pretty crappy fuel economy in the last 8 fuel fill ups. I usually get between 8.8 -9.4 L/100 km ,but have been getting an average of 10.4 L/ 100 km, roughly 470km before the fuel light comes on where I used to get around 600 km a tank most times. I have been using standard unleaded 91 ,not E10 , and have been using the same caltex service station. My tyres were replaced about 3 tank fills ago .I thought maybe because the tyre tread was getting quite low, maybe that had something to do with it. I always check the pressure every week. The car was service about 800 kms ago. I have just filled up with 98 fuel, whether this makes a difference or not , I will soon see.I don't use the air con much so I know it is not that, as I used the air con likewise when I was getting better fuel economy. I even put through a fuel cleaner last fill before this one. If anyone has ideas, it would be appreciated. Thank you.
  3. Hi Trent, thank you for that link.I missed that one.
  4. Hi,I have a 2008 camry altise and have noticed for a while where my dash is not covered by the dashmat, it has been slightly sticky for about a year and if I turn the steering wheel and my fingers run near the dash,my fingernail takes out a bit of the dash.It is starting to concern me.The dash doesn't appear to be sticky so much under the dashmat, only on the exposed parts near dashmat, though whether it gets worse in the future, who knows. So i don't really know whether I should approach toyota yet. Has anyone else with a camry had a sticky or even worse dash? I have read through this topic and seems alot of people with this problem have an aurion but still they would have sourced their dashes from the same manufacturer.
  5. Okay thanks for your input Distress
  6. Just wanted to get an idea of costs for 90000km service through toyota on a 08 camry. If anyone knows roughly, just deciding whether to go through toyota or someplace else.
  7. Hi,Just wanted to know peoples' opinions for replacement front suspension on my camry altise 08. Was told by Bridgestone select they are leaking. They wanted to use monroe but I am not sure what brand shocks are good.also is it a job I can do myself and do I need a wheel alignment after. All views welcome.Thank you.
  8. hi,yes I know the Aurion is rated 93.And don't know why they put a 95 rating on the altise.Tyre places have said legally has to be 95 or higher.
  9. Hi everyone,I am after some ideas on tyres for 17 inch wheels.I have a 2008 Camry Altise with standard 16 inch wheels and tyres(215/60/16 95v). I have some as new 2010 sportivo 17 inch alloys and would like to put them on but it is a problem trying to find tyres.I am after 215/55/17 to keep within the sizing for the spare and the speedo, but it is almost impossible to find any with a load rating of 95v or higher. So far I have been offered rotalla 9chinese0 tyres but have no good reviews on them,Raptis by Bob Jane which seem to not have good reviews and some other Salem tyres. Any ideas ,I would be grateful, otherwise I will think about getting rid of the alloys and looking for some 16 inch alloys.

    Tacho issues

I was wondering whether anyone here has come across this before. I have a 2008 Toyota Camry Altise.55000kms,bought in June this year from a toyota dealership. I will be driving either at 60,70,80 and my rpms fluctuates suddenly. It mostly happens when I am sitting around 60 km/hr but also happens at other speeds.I will be doing 60 on a flat road,no decline or incline and suddenly the rpm needle drops, comes up then drops again. It usually sits at around 1800rpm.When it drops it goes down to 1000,back to 1500,eventually sits back around 1800 rpm. It feels as if I am losing power at the time and as though the brake has been touched. At times it can do it up to 5 times within a couple of hundred metres. I have been back and forth to the Toyota dealership without any satisfaction.First they told me I have a faulty instrument panel,I couldn't understand how that can affect the motor where I am losing power as if the fuel is not getting through. Anyway they replaced it and of course,no difference.Went back again, they say they can't find anything showing up on the computer, but they didn't even bother driving it. Went to their other dealership where the mechanic I spoke to says it sounds like the speed sensors. Left it with them and nothing showed up.Booked it in again as they wanted it to be left running when I dropped it off to get the codes out,so they could reset it then enter the codes again. No codes showed up.They finally took it for a drive but only in the 80 km zone. Was told it did it once, though I think it should have been driven around 60 km/hr as I told them that is when it happens alot more. The answer I got is that it is normal as it toyotas "fuel saving" way so when you are driving,it shuts off the fuel.If that is so,why does it do it up to 5 times and why does the rpm drop even when the speed is constant. It is a very annoying thing and I find that excuse hard to believe.I would not think it is something toyota would have programmed into the cars computer which would irritate the hell out of the driver. You can feel it when it is just about to do it as it is as I said like your power is dropping and the brake just touched. If anybody has an idea, please let me know.
