  1. Never gone looking for mine but. I don't think it is in the underbonnet fuse box. It may be in the drivers side interiour fuse box or nearby. OR it may be on the drivers side behind one of the gloveboxes. cheers
  2. Toyota are pretty consistent with their engines ....... arroud the same era they use the same motor across quite a number of models. The same motors more or less can be found in the hilux, hiace, prado and smaller dyna with minor differences. Changimg from petrol to diesel is a major thing ...... the whole fuel system is different. ... tarnsmission may be dofferent and diff ratios may also be different. Having drive a few dynas .... I few more schnaps would not go astray The 2.4 litre out of the hilux would be a fair choice ...... it will be carburated so no major engine management and it will have low rise manafolds. Av 2.7 litre fuel injected motor would be great...... but I recon that would be a world of trouble. cheers
  3. If its toyota for toyota and it bolts straight up I recon you should be OK. Anything from the same series should bolt straight up .. so SR5 seaths from a similar age vehicle should be fine. Not sure how the bolt patterns retain from series to series. I have heard but not directly witnessed people fitting up market toyota seats into hiluxes by swapping the rails ...supra seats seem to be a candidate. Another option is to have your seats repacked by an upholsterer that knows what they are doing. cheers
  4. Some places style side trays are pretty thick on the ground and don't fetch much ...... if ya want to shift it join one of the Toyota face book groups. cheers
  5. Sorry but none of the upstart oil companies match the big three in the diesel oil world ......While Penrites' diesel oils are "OK" the Penrite diesel oils simply do not stack up spec for spec against the big three. ... it certainly does not stack up when price is considered ..... though it is way better than non diesel spec oils that claim to be suitable for diesel use. Remember that diesel spec oils are used in enormous volume in the transport industry worldwide ( especially in the US)and the market is so competitive that it is very difficult to seperate the top 3 commonly available oils, Dello, Devlac and Rimular ...... BP and their flagship Castrol product has not kept up, neither has their budjet Valvoline product. That said Castrol RX super is still not a shabby oil and Castrol are manufacturing a couple of niech market, too spec oils that do not apply to pre 05 non common rail diesels. For this era of vehicle you are looking for a JASO DH1 compliance as the king spec. The other thing to remember is that all three of these JASO DH1 oils I mention and RX super are multifleet oils and spec up very well for petrol vehicles ..... so you can buy them in volume and use them in other things As far as bypass filtration ..... while there are still some who support the idea ........ its been pretty much discredited and nowhere near as well regarded as it was in the 70's and 80s. OH on the matter of filters ...... buy where the truckies buy and you will get better value for money ...... I pay around $16 for a landcruser style fulter for my hilux ...... If you buy in the normal auto shops you will pay around $30 Look for Sakura ( best value), fleet guard and donaldson ...... you will get better value and better quality filter. cheers
  6. good to see someone doing a sensible hilux engine swap
  7. From what I hear you need a 7mm hole in your blanking plate. cheers
  8. This seems all to common ...... people trying to make Hiluxes something they are not. Hiluxes are a great light 4WD. That is what they, are that is where their strength is ........ try to make them something they are not and it will get expensive and disapointing. Remember the maximum braked towing capacity of a pre 05 hilux is 1800Kg ........ I would not be trying to tow 1800Kg long distances at high speed and expecting it to be all good. SOOOOO many people are trying to push the boundries on towing capacity .......... this is possibly the single most dangerous issue with caravans on our roads. If you look at towing capacity in simplistic terms ....... you may well find you are overloaded and illegal ..... you must consider ball weights ..... the payload reduction due to the ball weight AND the axle loadings on the tow vehicle. As for the engine power ........ If you are comming to diesel from owning petrol engined vehicles .... you need to change your expectations and you need to learn to drive a diesel. Remember thet the 2.7 litre petrol motor makes considerably more power than even the turbo diesel motor in the pre 05 hiluxes. Get it thru your head that a diesel hilux, particularly pre 05, turbo or no turbo will never be fast ......... but they are an excelent towing engine and 4wd engine. Remember too that diesel engines get slugish if they are babied and driven around town at low rpm and low loads ...... they need to be loaded and driven hard from time to time. You Must use a good diesel spec oil ...... forget all the fancy brands and stay away from thick oils ..... you need a 15w40 diesel oil, preferably a JASO DH1 rated oil ....... in this catagory the top oils on the market come from three of the major oil companies .... Caltex Dello, Shell Rimular, or Mobil Devlac ........ it realy does not matter which and if ya paying more than $150 for a 20 litre ya not shopping well. Change ya oil every 5000 ......... yes every 5000. you can try all sorts of things to ring a bit more power out of a 3 litre pre-common rail diesel ... and you might get a little ........ but it is what it is .... get used to it. cheers
