  1. Yup, the O-ring (07020) was the main culprit but we changed all three parts. Starts and runs fine now. Let's hope it maintains pressure! The mechanic was very critical of aftermarket filters, even big brands like Ryco, said he has a lot of jobs come back days or weeks or months later as the seals fail or the o-rings are damaged by the slightly off shaped filter housing. Next time I'll go all genuine and also make sure I order spare seals and o-rings with it too.
  2. OK.. let's hope that these do the trick as I really need to hit the road and get to Sydney ASAP.
  3. Will do. This is what I've ordered and checked with Toyota that there's no other seals/o-rings requiring replacement: 90301-07020 (regulator o-ring, shown on diagram as 23280E) $5 90301-09021 (suction valve O-ring, not illustrated but noted on file to be replaced with filter) $5 77169-33020 (fuel suction gasket, the thick large) $12 There's also the fuel filter seal, marked as part number 23238B on the assembly diagram (that's not the official part number though with Toyota). But we won't be replacing that as the one in the filter right now is brand new. Going to pick up the new seals this morning and hopefully the mechanic can come and remove the fuel filter and replace the seals asap. Paying $$$ for rent and haven't even moved in because the car is stuck in the driveway and we can't go anywhere. PS - Here's the connection on my ZZE122R that I had huge issues disconnecting to actually get the fuel filter assembly out in the first place! The mechanic used a special pry tool to pop it off. I tried with pliers, flat head screw drivers etc myself with a friend twice and couldn't get it disconnected. Figured it's worth noting this thing is a PITA to remove for other people finding this thread, as the OP only has a power and easy to remove line/connection in the original tutorial.
  4. Just called Toyota. The chap on the line said that there's an o-ring not shown on the diagram (part number 90301-09021) which is noted on the file needs replacement when filter is changed. He didn't know what this seal is attached to, possible the suction valve O-ring (that's what it is on file)? He said it's slightly different to the other o-ring shown in the diagram hence why a different part number. $4 a pop. Will pick them up tomorrow and swap them over, as well as part 90301-07020 (regulator o-ring, shown in the assy diagram as 23280E).
  5. Thanks Trent. The Regulator O-Ring - 90301-07020 and Tank Gasket - 77169-33020 are the two I'm after, I think. The strainer was in good condition still, and the fuel pump o-ring (aka seal) is brand new. My mechanic said one of the o-rings was visibly deformed last time he pulled it apart, will have to check if it's the regulator o-ring or gasket. I am pretty sure it'll be the regulator o-ring or return o-ring (both the same probably as you said), rather than the gasket. The gasket, from memory, doesn't need to be removed and is less delicate than the o-rings. I will check tomorrow with a QLD Toyota store as they'll be open. According to the assembly diagram for the ZZE122R (attached) the Toyota part number for the regulator o-ring is # 23280E.
  6. Help! My mechanic changed the filter a couple of weeks ago and the new filter didn't come with any o-rings or seal. He reused the seals and then a few days later the car was having issues starting up, taking 4-6 seconds of cranking before it would go. A few days later (after driving 1000km back home) the mechanic put a new genuine Toyota seal in to try and fix the fuel pressure issue. Problem then got worse. He then put a new filter and new seal (Ryco Z646) in on Friday afternoon. I tried to start the car today and it wouldn't turn on anymore, just sits there cranking trying to start. It sometimes starts to run and then stutters and dies again. Definitely not enough fuel pressure. In addition to the chunky cylindrical seal, there's the two other O-rings/seals, the large one around the top of the filter housing and the smaller one inside. I have tried to order those parts in via Toyota but apparently these pieces do not show up on the assembly diagram when they checked it via my VIN. I'm now stranded with my car stuck in the driveway and I was supposed to drive to Sydney tomorrow. I've searched and searched for the fuel filter seals so I can get them and have them replaced, hopefully fixing my problems, but can't find them anywhere. Can anyone please point me in the right direction where I can see them and source them? I am currently located near Byron Bay in far northern NSW. My car is a 2004 ZZE122R Corolla. FIlter is very similar to the one in the tutorial, except mine has a large fuel supply hose and fitting (almost impossible to remove DIY without a special tool) in addition to the smaller return line with the yellow circlip as pictured above. Any help much appreciated!
