  1. Hi all, I have been reading about the 2000 to 2003 rav4 with auto transmission problem. Can someone please confirm if this is a problem with the 2.0L motor model only, as I believe the 2.4L models started late 2003.? I've test driven a 2009 and didn't like the electric power steering or the touchy fly by wire throttle. So I'm looking for the second gen Rav4 with 2.4L motor, as long as I can confirm that the tranny problems are limited to models ith 2.0L motors. I figure late 2003 to early 2005 is what I'm after as long as I can confirm the above. Thanks in advance. Ian
  2. Definitely not interested in a diesel, hoping someone answers my question about engaging 4x4 tho....
  3. Hi All, Trying to decide which model to buy. Some reviewers claim the rav4 is constant 4x4 others claim its on demand. I'm not interested in the 2wd models at all. Tending towards 2005 to 2010, but I may choose pre 2000 so I won't be afraid to take it on the beach. Can someone please explain if all rav4 are the same regarding the engaging of 4 x 4, or maybe the earlier models are on demand and later constant. One reviewer claimed the Rav4 he was reviewing was "on demand 4x4" and that you could stop and select "lock" which keeps it in 4x4 till about 40kph. But I read it some time ago and I forget which model he was reviewing. I really would appreciate if someone can explain how 4x4 is engaged over the various models on the rav4 4cyl models. Also about any manual locking buttons etc. Thanks in advance Ian
