  1. I know a heap of people don't like them but i want to know exactly why. Is the Lift useless in the auto, Is the rev range compromised and are they reliable if occasionally driven hard? Also did they really use the same box as a corona? waaaah.SEE below wiki info i found. A241E 4 Speed Automatic Transaxle Applications: 1990-2005 Celica GTS 1988-1989 MR2 S/C 1990-1999 MR2 2.2l 1996-1997 RAV 4 1992-1998 CORONA 1998-2000 Avensis
  2. Well that exceeded my expectation. I will cut it back and polish it in a week or two but overall its made a tired looking car great again.
  3. Its all good i am part of many forums being the guitar building master i am hehe ''well'' i know how they roll. It was a fishing comment. nothing more.
  4. Cool Thread! My Uncle started willow bank dragway. The quarter mile is even named after him. Dennis Syrmis was his name, He had the first gas rolla into ten seconds.
  5. I can see a lot of you a really interested in this. HA! **** it i will finish the thread now i started it. For the record i had the colour matched in acrylic lacquer, The match wasn't 100% perfect but it will be better than a dermatitis bonnet, ding and roof.. Bonnet and Guard are painted and have one coat of clear on them. Next i will oil it back with kero and apply another few coats and call it done.
  6. its nice looking. love those treads. I wasn't overly harsh on mine. even when it ****** out it was just driving out of Woolworths car park. Who knows what the previous owner did. Mine wasnt the gears that ****** out but rather the diff. Who knows but its costly when it does happen.
  7. I have a question, How the **** do you keep your transmission from exploding?
  8. Another way to get it to go in reverse easier is to just back off the clutch a fraction as you put it in reverse. Worked a treat on the sportivo.
  9. I stepped down from the sportivo to this auto jap one. And to be honest i like this one almost as much. It handles a treat, the power isnt amazing and especially so being an auto but if you use the gears it can move good enough. The handbrake is by far the best feature and a full credit to touyota for putting it in the right spot ''unlike my camry''. i can slide ''Ruby'' right into my carport no worries.
  10. Thought i would share my current efforts on making my new/old rolla look a little better. Has low kms but the price was good because of the paint and dings. It's never going to be perfect but it will look a little more tidy, It had really bad paint peeling on the bonnet and roof. Before After. Not perfect but i will be the only one who will notice. Next week maybe some paint.
  11. Well i should just get my cat to ***** in there. I will have to think about something like that for the long term. I heard mothballs can help too. I just want to know how they get in to the thing.
  12. When the rats were in the blower motor it would have been like one of those spinning gravitron rides. I can just imagine all their little faces pinned to the walls as it goes around. HA.
  13. The wife mostly drives it so i don't know. It shouldn't happen either way but i actually told her earlier to leave it closed. I looked over the cowl today but it's so tight and very intact i ruled it out as a possible cause. I am beginning to think maybe they come in through the bottom of the car or around the boot?
  14. My mum gave me this car about 6 years ago and since then i have had multiple rats/mice breaching the cabin. I often kill them off but for the life of me i can't work out how they get in. They are coming and going from the car because i see bamboo leaf litter in there and in the nest in the blower motor fan macadamia nut shells. View from above the blower motor. Cleaned. This ***** i got in there a few weeks ago. As you can see he isn't small so a decent sized opening is somewhere. Any help would be appreciated. I have owned many cars and never had this problem.
  15. Really nice! I hope you got yourself these https://monkeywrenchracing.com/product/ssc-gear-upgrade-3rd4th-helical-lotustoyota-c60-c64/ The lsd would be great too
  16. I had a v6 commo 4runner. They make for a great conversion but MANY experience over heating issues. What ever diff and gearbox my runner had it was strong as hell. I gave it abuse to no end on and off road and it always took it like a champ. I couldn't get mine to cool down no matter what i did. New bigger radiator, big thermos etc. In the end i bolted a reverse rotation engine fan straight off the waterpump/ After that without a thermostat it couldn't even budge the temperature gauge haha. It killed some power but the befits were ten fold especially for a 4wd. Another thing to consider is the electronics component of the conversion. You really need the marks adapter for the speedo otherwise the motor reverts to a limp home mode.
  17. The way they feel and drive is nice. Ratios are fine imo its just like you said. I thought the new price was fair. It would be good to know if the new ones are new old stock or still in production. I still have my dead box here. If anyone wants it you can have it for some hot chips and a coke to the value of $100. haha
  18. Honestly man after just selling mine i think the c64 is a pile of ****. I have read so much negative things on them. That's the reason i had to get rid of mine because it now has some used gearbox in it. It's a damn shame because when they work they feel nice it's also a bigger shame that their isn't any alternate gearbox that fits. A new one from toyota will set you back 4g. which i imagine will be cheaper than your rebuild that wont include all new parts. If you could afford the mods to make it strong it might be worth it for the car but not financially. Someone needs to make a conversion kit to a honda box or something more bullet proof that can work with the 2zz.lift. There might be a auto box out there that can bolt on i'm not sure but once again the cost.
  19. I will be downgrading from a 2003 sportivo to a 2003 standard mij made accent. I got the accent for $3500 with rwc, rego and 130000 on the clock. The price was decent because the paint isn't great and it has a small ding that i can fix myself. I sold the sportivo for $6500 but it cost me the moon for the roadworthy so i got $5600 in the end. I have lost out a heap over 5months on the sportivo with the gearbox blowup and cv boots etc. So i am hoping this new one will boost the money lost back into the account I'm feeling the pain. 6 speed to auto, back disk to drum, 141kw to 100kw. leather to cotton, **** power windows to vintage hand crank. AGGGGGHHHHH!! I really hope this other ones serves me well until i can get something i really like again.
  20. Its fixed now but yeah even when rolling with the engine off it would make the clunking noise. With the front jacked up it would physically make the entire engine move each time it knocked. Before it happened it was shifting like a champ even close to the limiter which didn't happen all that much. You could even drive it how it was but it sounded like a jack hammer. It could have been the diff. Would you guys sell it on or keep it? Other than that i really like the car i just don't want to spend more money on it as i only just got it 4 months back.
  21. I haven't had anyone open the box but it was terminal. It was making a rough clunking noise every few rotations. I still have the old box here. I have read so much crap about them its really hard to know whats best. .
  22. Hi bought a 2003 sportivo 4 months back and i love the car it drives and performs great. The other month its gearbox suddenly died without warning and after researching more i have noticed many people with problems relating to this. it wasn't a syncro problem but rather the output shaft. I replaced the box with a used one which seems to be fine for now but i have lost almost all trust in it. You can still buy new boxes from japan for around $4000 aud. Rebuilding seems pricey and their doesn't seem to be any quick fix mods around to help, The car only has just done 100,000kms so it was a surprise to me to have it **** up already. Any help or advice would be good. I'm considering selling it and going back to a commodore or something but i really do like it i just don't want to be stung again.
  23. I just got my gearbox replaced through a mechanic and on the invoice it says the gearbox is a zre 6 speed and i was curious if these are interchangeable with the c64 from my corolla sportivo? he also priced me out on a new box from toyota $5500 but i imagine they wouldn't make the c64 boxes anymore. The car feels different but it could be a placebo effect from not driving it for a few weeks.
  24. Thanks i have many more guitars haha. Do we have any other corolla sportivo owners on here? I looked through a few pages of complaints about gear shifting issues and that was my main reason for seeking advice on here.
