WELL.....mine works OK....shifts into 6th at about 100kph. Im also getting 10.4litres per 100 kilometres on the highway and 11-12 litres per 100 kilometres around town. Im happy

Hi ConeHead,

Is yours on 20" wheels ? The difference could be the different tire diameter. If your fuelconsumption is true, than my vehicle works wrong. Do you have the same "policing" by Toyota on the Navi? no access to modify destinations, etc, while vehicle is in motion?

My car is 'bog standard' with the factory 17 inch wheels. It is toally un modified in any way. Fuel consumption is consistant. There are numourous posts on this site where various 200 series Twin Turbo Diesal (TTD) state there fuel econom, and its similar to mine.

There no problems with Toyota here.

Hi Guys, I'm new to this forum and have just got the LC 200 TTD over 1 month ago. I did read about the car not engaging 6th gear unless the speed was over 120kph before I got the car.

I haven't found this to be a problem and 6th gear is usually engaged by 110-115kph. I noticed if the car is in 5th gear and I accelerate to about 120 then back off the accelerator to around 100kph it will shift up to and stay in 6th gear at 100kph.

Very happy with the car and its been great for towing

Very happy with the car and its been great for towing

what r they like as a 4x4?!? not as good an old FJ45!

I am about to seal a deal to buy a Sahara 200 Diesel with 6 Speed Auto. Small problem is that Saturdays Herald-Sun (Melb) had a article which claimed that the 6th Gear would only engage at speeds above 120 kph. Therefore fuel economy on Highway was around 13.1/100.

Is this a problem that others are aware of?

My GXL TD now has almost 4000 ks on the clock and last weekend on a freeway trip it went into 6th at 100kph on the flat. On 110k limits it looks like it would use 6th without too much drama. Why all the fuss?

How many of you have come from 60, 80 and 100 series cruisers?

Do you have more power?

Another Turbo perhaps?

A lot more weight and options and specification in the Cruiser now?

Its a Twin Turbo V8 diesel ffs... People ARE getting close to the AD/R regulated fuel use on the LC200, I myself have not, but I like to flog it a bit, the power of that 4.5L v8 is insane. ;)

Only 2 vehicles I have driven actually come close to the correct fuel consumation according to the Lab Tested AD/R conditions (and quite frankly if ANY of you EVER expect to achive those exact fuel figure you are a complete goose, check Nissan, Holden, ANY other mfgr, it is the same story, the AD/R fuel use is to give a COMPARISON ONLY!) have been the Petrol V8 Cruiser - Driving from Cairns to Rocky, stopping in Cairns, Tully, Townsville, Ayr, Mackay etc and stopping overnight 3 times and driving around city centre, certainly not babying it, I achieved 14.7L/100klm which i was happy with. Same deal for Prius, have achieved 930klm from one 45L fuel tank, with the way I drive i was extremely impressed with this...

The Land Cruiser is designed for a world wide market, the 5th and 6th gears are OVERdrive ratios... If you don't get to use the 6th gear then its just like having a 5 gear auto... this is how it was designed.. not reliant on using all gears... Lot of countries have higher speed limits or no speed limits in some areas whereas Australia has basically now got speed restrictions everwhere...

1. Compare it to previous fuel use of other cruiser's

2. Compare the power and engine set-up and what do you think would be suitable fuel use?

3. Can the competition provide anything close to what Toyota has provided?

I'm happy, it drives well, tow's like there is nothing there, off road is unbeatable and loves nothing more than pulling Nissan's out of the bush and sad. ;)

Landcruiser V8 Diesel 6-speed Automatic Transmission

Hi,

I am new in this forum, I am from Austria in Europe and own the new Landcruiser since February 18th. From the beginning I was disappointed about the gearbox behavour, shifting gears from one to two and two to three never below 2000 Rpm (even at throttle less than 10%), no lockup function in 4th gear below 90km/h, no lockup function in 5th gear below 90km/h and no 6th gear available below 125km/h.

My dealer wanted to buy back my vehicle without even trying to understand my complaints, but he also wanted to cut off all the extras I have ordered for this vehicle, that would have created a net loss of more than €10.000,-- ; that is certainly too much to be a beta tester for Toyota.

Since this time I am fighting a terrible battle with Toyota Japan and Toyota Motors Europe, they are masters of ignorance of customers complaints, but now, the pressure is getting critical. Because my vehicle needs 40% more fuel at "just rolling" than published and certified by Toyota Motors, I do have a legal arm to force Toyota to modify the gearbox software. However, the next step is an official test by Toyota Motors Europe and then, possibly at court.

The only chance to increase pressure to Totoya is, when the vehicle does not match fuel consumption figures as claimed by Toyota to force Toyota to make necessary adjustment. With his Bull****-Software lower fuelconsumption rates never can be achieved.

Finally, although we repeat our explanation of the software of automatic

transmission, if our distributor “Toyota Frey” and Toyota Motor Europe

There is a new program for the 6 speed box mine now engages just after 90kph and stays in 6th for longer under loads just contact your local dealer :)

With the early production vehicles, you could still engage 6th gear at 100km/h if you were on a level highway and if you were gentle on the throttle.

Now that there is an ECU reprogram available, its much easer to get (yes, even at 94km/h) and will hold (with or without cruise) until about 91km/h before going back to 5th.

The trick AFTER THE REPROGRAM is to be sure to use S-MODE with 6th selected, otherwise you are back where you started ...

a reprograme with a toyota scan tool at the dealer will lower the engagment of 6th gear, in other words it is electronically adjustable

OK Guys...the simple facts....

'Older' 200's may not have had the fix applied.

The fix will allow 6th gear to engage from 95 upwards.

depending on the 'loading' of the vehicle the gearbox still may not kick into 6th. Toyota have created a scenario that helps the gearbox kick into 6th asap and stay there a little longer..an instruction sheet should come with the vehicle ( but i did have to prompt my dealer to hand it over).

The scenario....

put the vehicle into 'sportsmode' by shifting the stick to the right.... then push it forwards twice until the 'display' shows '6'. this willhelp 'push' the box into 6th asap. you can put the stick back into 'drive' posn once this has been done without removing the temp reprogram. You will need to do this everytime you drive the vehicle on the highway (not towing of course).

I did a trip from Adelaide to Katherine a few months ago and was able to take full use of 6th gear..believe it or not, according to the display, the faster you go the more economical....

ended up with sub 10 lph while in the territory, back to 11s in SA :angry:

hopefully this is a much simpler explanation....

Likewise, I find that ours shifts around 100 to 105k's so long as the road is flat. Nice sitting on 100 at around 1500rpm's. Fuel consumption is normally around 11.5 but have had 10.8 but again thats on hwy driving and whilst speed of around 100-110 its not with a heavy foot as I want the vehicle to last many years without lots of payment to fuel companies or tyre manufacturers.
