Installation of remote for central locking - advice please.

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

Wondering if anyone can offer me any advice please.

I have a '02 Corolla Ascent hatch with keyed central locking. I am wanting to get a remote/keyless entry installed for it.

Does anyone have any opinion/info on whether there are factory Toyota parts that can be installed or whether some other aftermarket kit is better and or cheaper?

Any advice would be appreciated!

Cheers,

Matty.

for your ascent, getting a "genuine" remote kit would end up with an external remote, not the integrated one in the key. For this reason I'd not bother with the genuine kit and go with an aftermarket item with a nice remote.

The aftermarket kits only really need to interface with 5 wires and the body ground... lock and unlock pulses to the factory door control module, courtesy light trigger, ignition switched 12V and constant 12V.

Hi rollamods,

Thanks for the reply.

Yeah, I just have the key with transponder built in for the immobiliser at present. I suppose getting a system that has the remote integrated into the key means one less thing on my keyring. That will probably be rather costly (if it is even possible to upgrade) as I'd need to get new keys cut, etc.

If I get an aftermarket central locking kit, do they all have the features such as; indicator flash and beep when you lock/unlock, beep differently if it cant lock because one door is open, etc?

When you say "nice remote" do you mean one that looks good and/or is heavy duty, or is there something else I should be looking for in a remote fob?

Thanks!

Matty.

if you want indicators and noise, it's 3 more wires, one for left indicators, one for the right and one for the horn.

By nice remote, I mean one that isn't too bulky, has a good fastening mechanism to attach to your keychain, and has buttons that are easy to operate but aren't easily accidentally pressed.
