Xenon low beams - Presara

Recommended Posts

Okay so last night I went out to my car and the left low beam light is out and the right is starting to flicker, called Toyota today and they told me its $550 for one light bulb and that I will need two cause the right one is about to die, so that's $1100!!! For light bulbs!!! Called another electronic shop and he reckons he can installed a bluish white HID bulb for about $50-$70 what are your thoughts on this? Anyone else had this problem with their low beams on the Presara models?

Your best most affordable way is simply upgrade to HID .

Kits are available on eBay for $50 and you install yourself.

But because my low beams are already Xenon HID that probably wouldn't make sense? I need to find the same bulbs but for cheaper price?

Don't think that would be a good idea, as the Aurion has halogen projectors not HID projectors

True but the Presara model does have xenon/HID projectors unlike the AT-X models

He's correct. My car has Halogen projectors. Sportivo ZR6 and Presara both have HID projectors.

ATX - Halogen

Touring (mine) - Halogen

Sportivo SX6 - Halogen

Prodigy - Halogen

Sportivo ZR6 - Xenon (known as HID)

Presara - Xenon (known as HID)

Oh ok, but are they just HID projectors with halogens in them? Because mine is a 08' ZR6 and the lights appear to be yellow (halogen)

Nah the Presara do have the HID/Xenon bulbs in them, when I turn mine one they're like a bluish-white colour

yeah I just found out its only the Presara that has the HID in them for the 2006- model year, only the 2012 onwards Presara and ZR6 has them

the presara has HID projectors as opposed to the others with halogen projectors. the headlight assembly is different on the back, u cant just plug new HIDs in. think this is due to the turning headlights/auto height adjustable mechanism that lies within.

So I can't just replace the blown bulb, I have to replace the entire assembly? I would've thought the HID bulb would just click into the back of the turning headlights mechanism?

Yeah, don't forget the $1100 doesn't even include fitting which is another $210! I have the same car and had the same issue about a year ago. A couple of points from my experience.

- Buy genuine bulbs and be absolutely sure they are a 100% authentic. The first 'authentic' set I bought from ebay cost about $100 and were crap, they flickered and had to be replaced again. From memory, an authentic pair of bulbs for the Presara should cost about $150. Trust me, you only want to change the bulbs once because it is an absolute pain in the a..e to change.

- The $210 fitting charge quoted by Toyota was due to them explaining that the whole front bumper had to be removed just to change the bulbs. The good news is that you can change the bulbs without doing this but you will need patience and fingers of a surgeon to get to the bulb. This is why you really want to buy the correct bulbs and just do it once.

Hope this helps.

Does anyone know where a step by step guide to changing these bulbs can be found?

As much as I love my Aurion Presara,

Toyota want way too much money to replace them.

Hi Mallabullaergo/Abacab

Are you able to advice where you bought the bulbs from - I have the same issue with my 2007 Presara and need to buy the bulbs to give it to the car dealer to replace. Toyotas quote is $480.00 each for the bulbs.

Thanks

Hi, this problem I had was a while ago and turned out that there were broken fragments of glass in the projector housing (where the bulbs sit in) so I removed the entire light assembly, cleaned it out and bought a set of these:

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/121111786203?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649

They are genuine (been confirmed with phillips) D4S HID Bulbs and are 6000K in colour, which look great and in my opinion I'm very happy with visibility at night, they are basically white but from a distance they're like a deep blue colour (Like the bmw look), the guy who I bought these of has a store in Melbourne and Im sure he'll be happy to answer any questions you have, he also has them available in 4300K (Standard HID colour) :)

Plus, try and avoid the $80 bulbs that you can buy on eBay, I bought a fake pair of 8000k philips and they worked fine for bout 3 months but than they blew haha

hope this helps :)

In Western Australia, we have a company named Repco. They purchased them from a Melbourne based company named NARVA. Part No. 49307 refers. They cost me $240.00 each including freight.

I have been advised that this company supplies to Toyota (hearsay) and a mate of mine who works for Toyota states that a lot of mechanics use these offsite (for private work).

The most important thing is to use the 12/24V D4S 35W for the Presara. The D4S is the only one.

To replace it is not all that easy, see my photo attachments.

I have also checked on eBay and the prices are much cheaper. Do NOT use el cheapo brands.... you always get what you pay for.

This is correct, do not buy h11 which a lot of people say, h11 is only the high beams and fog lights :)

If you are going to replace them yourself do so very carefully, I found it an easy job but time consuming, something good for a weekend :)
