Xenon low beams - Presara

Recommended Posts

H11 is the LOW beam on other Aurions

HB3 is the High I believe but could be wrong :)

This could be the case for other models, but for the Presara H11 is high beam and fog lights, D4S for low beam (HIDs) and T10's for parkers and number plate lights :)

Honestly, I didn't find any difference. I replaced mine with identical original bulbs made by NARVA. I have been led to believe that these are identical to the ones sold and used by toyota, only with different packaging.

$350 I found as a really good price for a new set of genuine Phillips, considering there are sooo many counterfeits on the market,

Personally, I was worried about buying a set of 6000k as so many people have complained that they are crap for visibility at night and/or rain, (sometimes the 'fake' bulbs are no where as bright as the genuine bulbs) but when I installed them I was shocked by how bright they actually are.

In terms of the brand NARVA, they are really a comparable company, meaning they're both derived from Germany, top quality products and I'm sure if you choose either one you'll be completely happy with them :)

Here are some links:

This first link is a parts 'search engine' type website that will provide all part numbers for most

cars, I've selected a 2008 toyota aurion presara for this example, and were it says BULB, DISCHARGE LAMP there are two different ones, the first is the 2007-2008 model and the second is 2008-2009 (So Im guessing toyota may have changed the bulb or brand??) anyway if you google this part number it'll provide the bulbs that toyota use in the shop, which comes to the second link:

http://www.toyodiy.com/parts/p_G_2008_TOYOTA_AURION_GSV40R-JETGKQ_8101.html

It seems the reviews show that people are very happy with the bulbs in the second link haha so I guess they must be the genuine toyota ones :) (Not sure why they're like $10 hahaha)

Hope this helps anyway :)

I bought a set of low beam globes for for 07 Presara from here

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/PHILIPS-D4S-X-2-BULBS-42402-C1-42V-35W-P32D-5-OE-FIT-ORIGINAL-XENON-HID-LAMP-DOT-/130577158276?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item1e67015084&clk_rvr_id=527333957378

I've had them for 2 years now and they have not failed me. There are certainly lots of fakes out there and I learnt the hard way as the first set of 'genuine' bulbs turned out to be fake and started to flicker alnost immediately. Changing the bulbs on the Presara is a pain in the a,,e and not something you want to do too often,

Can we have pictures of the 6000k bulbs, I really want to get them now but still can't justify the cost.[/quote

Here you go, they appear more yellow than what they are too, and the justifying the costs of these is fairly easy considering they are $350 a pair and Toyota charge almost $400 PER bulb?

Hi there

Thank you for all the information - extremely helpful, I was going to purchase the bulbs from the link you gave but then came across what Kombi17 has posted below:

- http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/PHILIPS-D4S-X-2-BULBS-42402-C1-42V-35W-P32D-5-OE-FIT-ORIGINAL-XENON-HID-LAMP-DOT-/130577158276?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item1e67015084&clk_rvr_id=527333957378

Which seems to be the same brand but OEM standard 4300k rather than the 6000k and less expensive due to this at $160.00

Will try this out and see how it goes.

Replaced both bulbs on My 2007 Aurion Presara this morning, as everyone was bit worried about removing bumper bar to access head light assy. so thought will try to unscrew the cover behind assy and try to change but no it wasnt that easy to do that because there is not enough space to actually get a screwdriver or ratchet in there , so decided to remove bumper bar, had a look at the forum and there are some good step by step guide to remove bumper bar in this site, so followed it , make sure that you don't pull the bumper way too far out because presara got a head lamp washer system and fog lamp cables don't damage it while removing bumper bar, reomved bumper bar and then removed headlamp assy the unscrew 4 screws behind the assy and remove the high voltage connector and then remove bulb be careful when you do this because there is a high voltage ballast there supplying power to these bulbs, so ignition must be off and head lamp switch to off position and i suggest to pull battery ground for safety.

replaced bulbs and put back together and tested it before putting the bumper bar back and it all works sweet.

Toyota dealer quoted me 480 per bulb + fitting charges and i bought bulb from ebay (http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/251255510442)

120$ including shipping and so far am happy. this ebay seller seems to have pretty good seller history that's why i decided to buy from him

Hi All

I was trying to replace the HID lights on my Aurion Presara without removing the bumper. I got the black cover off and even the igniter cap off the globe but could not work out how to remove the globe itself. Tried to turn it anti-clockwise and clockwise but it just wouldnt move. Is there something else holding it in?

ABACAB has posted some great photos on page 2 that may help you. I changed mine around 2 years ago and I'm pretty sure there are some butterfly clips you need to remove to finally get the globes out.

Yes, there's some butterfly clips which lock the bulb in place. Simply squeeze on them and move it out of the way to have access to the bulb.

Thanks a lot everyone for the help you saved me a few hundred dollars! I was able to replace the bulbs without taking off the bumper (With kombi17's advice) with two Philips D4S globes I purchased on ebay - from the US.

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/PHILIPS-D4S-X-2-BULBS-42402-C1-42V-35W-P32D-5-OE-FIT-ORIGINAL-XENON-HID-LAMP-DOT-/130577158276?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item1e67015084&_uhb=1

Turned out they were the exact same brand of globes that were being replaced. Don't understand how Toyota quotes $400+ for each globe when here they were ~ $80 each.

Had to remove the battery to get access to the left hand side globe and a bit fiddly trying to remove the bulb retaining clips because the lamp assembly swivels (ie the seeing around corners head light functionality of the Presara). The right hand side was simpler with the only time-consuming piece being removing the screws to the back plate of the light assembly.

As for the replaced globes - you could really see the difference - the centre filament part had powdery salts built up in it whereas the new ones were much more clear. Driving, also there is a big difference in the light that is being thrown now - much fuller and brighter.

Hello folks,

I’m probably joining this convo a few years too late - however, this forum and this thread helped me a lot when I was forced to replace my trusty ol’Camry V6, and got an Aurion Presara (2008) last month.

One of the low beams wasn’t working - which did help me with negotiating the price on the car, but left me a little lost regarding replacement bulbs and their cost.

I looked up the HID lamp spec in the owners manual, and it said they were D4Ss.

I also gathered after hunting online that the factory originals for Aurion Presara in Oz were 35W Toshiba-Harison lamps @4300K. These are long life HIDs with 2000+ hours life times.

After getting the vehicle registration and VIN off me, Tuggeranong Auto Electricals quoted me $650-ish to replace both HID low beam bulbs. They wouldn’t even tell me what brand, what light temperature and what price the bulbs actually cost them.

I promptly rang Canberra Toyota - their parts guy said he didn’t know what brand they were, but they cost $350 a piece - $700 a pair.

Disappointed, I went to Supercheap Auto - asked them for D4S spec HIDs. They stocked Bosch HIDs - OEM replacements for Toyota Avensis, they said. $118 each, and these had to be ordered in, they said.

They couldn’t tell me anything about the colour temperatures or wattage.

After a little online research, I figured that the Avensis and the Aurion Presara used the same spec - D4S. Also figured out that D4S lamps are all the same wattage and colour temperatures based on info from the Bosch, Osram and Phillips websites.

eBay could get me Toshiba-Harisons from Japan, but that’d take many days, and Supercheap seemed more cost effective.

...so got a pair of Bosch D4S HIDs from Supercheap - $240, and took the car to a local mechanic - who charged me $100-something (labour for an hour and a quarter) to put the bulbs in... was a decent workshop - they took the utmost care.

The Bosch lamps are made in Japan, have a 12 month warranty, work beautifully and have a rated life time of 3000+ hours.

I could have gone for 6000 or 8000K bulbs - but they don’t last as long, and the human eye/brain really screws up when trying to clearly see at night at those colour temperatures - biologically, the best colour temperature for headlights is between 4000-5000 Kelvins - i.e. not too white/blue.

Cheers!
