Dashboard Pad Sticky

I own a 2007 Aurion, and the car has been great other than 1 front wheel bearing replaced. My problem is in the last year or so the dashboard pad has become very sticky,as if something has been spilled on it.The pad has become so sticky now it cannot be cleaned. If you scrapped it with your finger nail pieces of the pad would come off.I contacted my dealer and he said he has quoted on around 5 Aurions lately with the same problem. He has also contacted Toyota Australia and they told him they do not recognise a problem (end of story). The dealer quoted me $1,060.00 to replace the pad.A dash pad should last longer than 6 years, they have in the past.Iput a dashmat on at the moment until I decide what to do.The car has always been garaged also.Has anyone else here on the forum had this problem.I would love to know, thanks.

Google 'camry dashboard melting' or similar, its a common problem in hot and humid environments like most of Australia.

Dont know if anyone has a definite fix, but theres a few bandaid remedys. It looks like it is the glue within the dashboard pad is leaching out through the rubber, so anything you do to remove the 'shiny ness' is basically removing the glue.

Im just buying a dashmat to cover it up, so it reduces any future damage. Might try to clean it up before I trade it in however.

My dashboard has actually lifted a bit, on the passenger side. Its painfully obvious because when you look at it against the windscreen you can tell one side is higher than the other i.e. not equal

Tissue, thanks for the reply.Yes it is very tacky and it does seem like glue.I will just leave the dash mat on there for now.I don't want to spend $1,000.00 for it to happen again.

Same here . 2007 model and the dash began to get sticky in about 2012 . So it took 5 years . The car has never been garaged and I live in Perth , So it's had a lot of sun . I actually had a dashmat for a while but it had a great big hole over the airbag which made it an utter waste of time . For a car made for Australian conditions it seems like a manufacturing fault to me .

I will not be buying another Toyota .

What have you guys been cleaning your dash with? I've seen Aurion's that have been parked in the QLD sun nearly every day for the last 4 years without a single issue. I would be suspecting the care that has been put into them if they are deteriorating.

Maybe the newer Aurions had the dash material changed . A bit like they changed a few of the oil pipes when they realised they were dud .

I've seen the same problem mentioned on other forums with 2007 camrys as well .

I've used the same armourall (probably about 3 times) on my wife's 11 year old car which we have had since new and that's still fine .

My dash is like chewy gum on a hot day and you can stick your finger right into it which means the armourall I've put on it has soaked in a very very long way .

I've read that armour all protectant is a silicon based protectant and doesn't evaporate thus can trap heat under it? I've heard reports of dash's cracking due to it but I don't know how true that is...

Aww crap, I think my dash has started doing the same thing in spots :(

I'll have to check when the missus gets back from work, but I'd noticed some tacky patches when I was giving the dash a clean the other week but thought nothing more of it.

Regarding Amor All, the stuff is rubbish, only useful if you want to make your trim look shiny before trying to sell it. It should never be used, get something like 303 Aerospace protectant instead.

Well mine is also a 2007 model so i see a pattern here, i am i think the second or third owner of the car so i don't know what has been used on in it previously. Mine has gone sticky on the drivers side and has a few chunks on the side and in the middle which you can see. I now have a dash mat so you can only see a little damage on the front.

You could maybe try which what i am going to do is look for a better one from the wreckers.

I had the same problem with a European vehicle. Glue leaching out of the plastic.

I fixed the problem by making a paste of Bicarbonate and water and brushed on with a clean nailbrush. Add water slowly so you don't make the paste too runny.

Put a drop sheet on the floor first tho, because it can get a little bit messy when the paste starts dropping off and you will need to rinse.

After you have brushed it on, simply wipe over with a wettish, clean cloth to remove the Bicarbonate paste and repeat until the dash is clean.

No more stickiness. Natural solution that should not harm the plastic. Didn't hurt the Euro car.

My dash has done the same 2006 Nov model, you just touch the dash and it start to fall apart, have chip some corners off the dash around the Nav unit, done it while removal of Nav unit for repair.

Thinking for looking for 2010 model from the wrecker, would be alot cheaper than paying Toyota $1060.00.
Anyway it has a dash mat over it all this time, so you cannot see the problem unless you know.
I'm sure I've not cleaned it in anyway over the last 8 years this month.
Does anyone tell what year my model dash go too? 2010 or more?

Yeah, last week when i took my car to get fixed with my air con, the air con guy said my dash board is sticky, he reckons i've put something on it, but i am the first owner of the car and didnt put anything on it at all, its so sticky that he couldnt do anythign with it, he had to get a dash from the wreckers to replace it. A brand new one from Toyota was quoted at about $1k while the wreckers were only about $400. (2007 aurion sportivo ZR6)

So if anyone question about Armour Oil or something, i dont think its true

:)Tard, This is a known manufacturing fault. Nothing at all to do with care. It doesn't matter what you do, whether you keep it in the garage or use a sunshade or stand beside it whistling Dixie. They melt on some models. It's a drag. There are some of us who are trying to get them replaced now, but Toyota in Australia are not acknowledging the problem. In fact, and I quote, when I told the Customer service representative that people on forums were discussing this issue, she said, "We only have their word for that." And that just added insult to injury for me. I am really annoyed now.
