Replacing SV22 distributor

Hi,

I'm just posting this on behalf of a friend, but I hope you could help.

Friend has been given a 1990 SV22 Camry (carburettor version), but the distributor is shot and needs replacing. Apparently finding one either new or reconditioned is a proving difficult, but he's just been told that he can use a SV21 distributor instead and just change something over (he couldn't tell me exactly what)?

Is this true? If so, what would need changing?

I rang a car parts recyclers the other day looking for a reconditioned distributor and they said they had no carby version but plenty of the fuel injected distributors. Would that be the same distributor as this SV21 model that just needs some kajiggering (as I only asked for a SV22 distributor for the carby model)?

Does that make sense? Lol, sorry if it's convoluted.

Any help you could give would be GREATLY appreciated. :)
