Premium unleaded or E10 for Prius?

2012 Prius manual says use Premium Unleaded.

Inside petrol cap says E10 is also suitable.

Dealer says he wouldn't put E10 in anything he owns, even a lawnmower

Toyota Australia said that the only reason that Premium Unleaded was mentioned, was that this was a common 95 octane fuel used in many countries, whereas 91 unleaded wasn't, but wouldn't say if you could use E10 or regular 91 unleaded, instead he referred me to my dealer.

What's the truth?

All of the above? Remember that E10 (unless you're in NSW) is ~94/95RON anyway (ie same as Premium), so as long as the fuel system is compatible with ethanol (which it would be in a new car) then there would be no issues running E10. The comments by the dealer about not using E10 are a personal preference and probably hinge around the increased fuel consumption and damage to fuel systems not capable of running ethanol fuels (which lawnmowers almost certainly aren't)

95 is common especially in Europe and Japan (Australia has relatively crappy fuel) so can see the reasoning there.

So my manual says to use minimum 95 octane, and a sticker on the petrol cap says e10 is OK. But at Woolies (in Qld) their E10 is 91 octane, and I can't find anyone selling a 95 octane E10, hence I'm having to use Premium 95 Unleaded, which is about 10c/l more expensive than regular 91 Unleaded. Any suggestions?

I use E10 on both my 2005 Prius I-tech and new Prius C. ( and all my Hondas ever since E10 was available )

I get the best milage out of both and do not even think about the scare mongers around.

Saved thousand of dollars over the years.

I use E10 -95 from 7-11 and E10 -94 from Speedway .

E 10 from United is also good.

Do not use Wollies because I shop at the German Supermarket.

Get 3.7 L/100 over a full tank on my PriusC and just a shade under 4L/100 on my old Prius.

Had the HV Battery on the old Prius serviced.

Made a big difference

Hi Jurgen, at what stage did the Prius's (Prii?) batteries need servicing or replacing (which?) and how much did it cost?
