Tachometer...why none?

Hello all. Are there any camry hybrid people here? Are you enjoying your car? I hope you are coz I think they are fantastic. I wish I did 6l/100km in my normally powered car...

However, one of the main reasons I didn't get a hybrid though (other than the lack of twin exhausts, the "unique" rear bumper the Atara SX has and the "sports" suspension), is the lack of a tachometer. Why is that? I'm no mechanic so could somebody please explain to me why? Is the tacho that is in the Lexus CT200h phoney? I know I am, through admitting I cannot drive stick, that I am a phoney but I cannot fathom driving a car without a tacho. It just adds so much more life to the car. It's like the harder I step onto the accelerator, the louder good ol' engie up front shouts at me...

Also, how is the e-CVT of the hybrid cars compared to a regular Joe ones like say in a Subaru/Suzuki/Nissan/any other car with a CVT? Do they sound any different? I know a CVT can be more efficient than a regular auto (I love the paddles!) but do the hybrid ones also have the dreaded "CVT drone"?

Thanks for your time and wisdom!

Probably because having a tacho with an automatic transmission is not of any benefit.

Extending on that, a CVT WITH an electric motor that often does all of the driving means that tachos are almost completely useless (when you're cruising around on just the electric motor the tacho would be reading zero, which to some people would be more off-putting than not having a tacho in the first place). Instead, much more relevant (for a hybrid) fuel-consumption and driving-style gauges are used.

Makes sense...but how come the Lexus CT has a tacho? It would be nice too if the current camry's fuel consumption guage shows instantaneous consumption rather than the average...coz it's so boring to look at just not moving there at 9.2.

There is no apparent consistency re which models have a tacho and which don't.

I just acquired a 1993 manual transmission Camry that did not have one. I like a tacho, especially with a manual transmission. I pulled the tacho out of my old de-commissioned automatic trans car and fitted it into the dash of my newly acquired one. It was a bit of a job I must admit and I've described the process on another site if anyone is interested.
