How tough are 2gr-fe internals?

Hey guys,

I have been thinking of getting my Aurion turbocharged, but I didn't wanna go overboard. I wasn't looking for an increase of power over 50-60kw. I know can be really achieved with the right setup and a lot of people have told me I can get that extra power without touching the internals. I don't mind paying to forge the engine, but if I can get away with not doing that, I could spend that cash on some other mods. Anyone here have any idea if the Aurion engine are tough enough to handle a simple turbo setup that will add 50-60kw extra power?

My father owns a mechanics shop/wreckers and both him and my dad are mechanics. My brother in law also has his own shop but he mainly works on V8s. I will probably take it to Rajab's Racing. I know they specialist in Nissan engines, but I don't know Toyota performance mechanics. Can anyone suggest one in the northern suburbs of Victoria?

Apparently quite tough:

I'll be very interested to hear back how this all goes for you, from memory I've only read of a single other 2gr-fe being turbo'ed over in the states.

I seem to remember an aussie guy running a turboed 2gr in a desert race buggy. I think internals were standard (or very close). Gotta be prepared to go full aftermarket ecu though.

MonkeyWrench Racing in the USA has lots of exprience with the 2GR's in one of the Lotus's......

They sell forged conrods and pistons for boosted applications including a piston to drop compression down to 9:1

The mechanical side of things would be straight forward in the right hands, I think getting an aftermarket ECU to working right to tuine the thing properly would be a big headache.

sorry for bumping up an old thread - any updates on the turbo install?
