Camry 2005 rpm drops while coasting

Hi All,

I’ve got a Camry 2005 Sportivo, 4 cyl, Auto, with 48,000Km on the clock. Lately I’ve noticed that while driving at 60, 70, 80, or more Km/h. As I take my foot off the accelerator the engine rpm would drop momentarily, sometimes as low as idle 850rpm, before returning back to a coasting rpm of about 1200rmp. This would cause the car to drop speed quite a bit. It doesn’t happen every time but it is there.

Things I’ve tried..

-Cleaning throttle body.

-Cleaning injectors.

It doesn’t appear to happen while the car is in “Park” and you rev the engine. Idle perfectly in cold or warm conditions.

Any ideas thanks.

It was serviced about 3mth ago, 45,000km service, nothing major just oil, filter and new spark plugs. Forgot to mention that I also took it for a computer diagnostic, there were no fault codes.

maybe try servicing it,?

happened to me at times where my revs dropped while reversing/neutral, then i serviced it, with fresh plugs and oil (10w40)

What oil you using btw ? (not that it matters i think ? lol)

EDIT: damn ! thats some nice low kms

I had castrol magatec oils put in. I'll check the spark plugs this weekend see if any is bad or looks bad.

I read on toyotanation that the kick down cable may need to be checked/adjusted.

Just an update from the cold weekend.

-Checked the spark plugs, they are the best looking spark plugs I've ever seen.

- Pulled out the Idle Air Control valve cleanned it and confirmed that it is functional.

- Pulled the Throttle Position Sensor and tested that also, confirmed that it is working also.

There is no kickdown cable as such for this car's transmission. All done via the computer. So I'm thinking maybe something inside the gearbox is not clicking as it should...not sure.

Some people are saying that this is normal, the way the car behaves. But it doesn't happen all the time just only when it wants to or under some conditions.

Any ideas please chime in..

One of the first things I did was to clean the injectors, but that didn't do anything.

I had a chatt with an experienced mechanic, still thinks it's the throttle body. This time I'll clean the darn thing myself and I'll even clean all the hoses which connects up to the throttle body. If that doesn't work he can give it a go.
