Road noise 2013 ZR6

Hi. I recently upgraded to a 2013 ZR6. The very first thing I noticed was how noisy it is inside the cabin - road noise - mostly at speeds over 90k. I have since changed the tyres and got underbody sound deadening as well. I got Yokohama decibel tyres which I have always used. None of these have made any difference to the noise level. This is my 3rd Aurion - 1st was a 2008 ZR6 and then a 2012 Prodigy. Both previous Aurions were fairly quiet. Any feedback / suggestions will be appreciated.

Alot of the noise comes down to tyre choice.

Toyota have been cost cutting and putting on Bridgestone er33 on the later cars, early model ZR6 had Michelins which were very quiet, probably explain's why your previous Aurions were quiet

Got Bridgestone RE002 on mine they are very noisey can hear the noise change from different road surfaces.

Going to put some Michelin primacy 3 ST on next meant to be very quiet.

Hi Robboszr6. Thank you for your comments. I have been using Yokohama Advan Decibel - V551 tyres in my previous cars as well. The 2008 ZR6 had it during its last 2 years and after that on the 2012 Prodigy. That's why after a week of driving the 2013 ZR6 I had them installed. And I agree about it getting noisier when road surface changes.

Hi Robboszr6. Thanks for the feedback. I ordered a full set of Michelin primacy 3 st last week and will be installed on Monday. What size did you get. I am tossing up between 225/55R17 and 215/55R17. I have been told that the 225 will give a harder riding as it has a higher load rating (101) compared to 94 load rating of the 215/55/R17

Well I traded in my 2010 SX6 for a 2014 ZR6 just before Xmas and I understand what you mean. The 2014 ZR6 has excessive road noise. I swapped tyres / wheel with my wife's Aurion Presara running Pirelli tyres and it made no difference. Extremely frustrating. Overall it's a great car and it handles brilliantly. Does anyone know where I can get sound deadening done inside the car in Brisbane? Open to suggestions.

I purchased 2012 Aurion ATX at 21000ks. Very disapointed with road noise. Fitted a new set Michelin Premacy at 5ks. Very little improvement. Decision get rid of car and loose a small fortune or spend a few dollars chasing the noise. Great car, good on fuel, plenty of power and great boot. Made decision to chase noise.

Purchased a noise insulation kit from Tru-fit for $150.00.

Step 1 Fit noise insulation ( per a local panel beater @ $300.00 ) to the inside of each door. Noticeable improvement to the point that we have been able to isolate noise intrusion to area around wheel intrusion into footwell.

Step 2 Fit insulation under trim and floor mat on both driver and pass. sides. Will advise results.

Very disapointing that a world leader in the automotive industry can manufacture a car with so little insulation against road noise. A friend recently purchased a 2015 Corolla and here I am complaining about my Aurion. Its quiet compared to the Corolla.

I also have a 2014 Ford Ranger 3.2 diesel 4 x 4. Road noise is substanially lower that the Aurion ( before noise reduction ).

Recently hired a 2015 Commodore whilst interstate. Boy! what a quiet car.

Just to update you all. I have rented / driven a lot of cars over the past years and the new batch of Aurions are the nosiest that I have come across. I have changed 2 sets of tyres. I got sound deadening done at Northfield Car sound but it made very little difference to the car. They did all 4 doors, roof, boot and the floor. Then my brother did the front drivers side wheel arch - made a huge difference. We will soon be doing the front left - will keep you updated.

Thanks for post. That is my next step. Have booked car in to p/beater next Monday to fit noise to wheel arch's. My panel shop man took the car for a drive and could not believe the road noise.

Good to know that the wheel arch did the trick. At least I know that I am on the right track. As a matter of interest how long did it take him and what material did he use? Will post results.
