Kluger lift kits

Has anyone lifted their kluger, I would like to do this for extra clearance while on the beach, I'm looking around and have not seen much available, might end up getting king springs and doing it myself, not sure if I need longer shocks also, any info greatly appreciated,

Hi Dan,I have been looking at this for a while, you have two options. Firstly fit higher profile tyres(i gained about 20-23mm on mine) and then fit King springs(the only springs available for the Kluger). And unfortunatly thats it!. ARB did do a lift kit(shocks and springs), but due to low interest they stopped making it.i guess if enough people pester them they might redo it,worth a try.

If you fit King springs your standard shocks will be fine, all depending on how many K's they've done i guess.

The other option im looking at, which i think will open a can of worms on this forum, is to fit spacers between the body and the suspension tower( subaru owners have been doing it for a long time, and their are kits for the Hilux/Navara independant front ends (search on Ebay).But nobody makes off the shelf ones for Klugers,so its DIY. I have a sheet of HDPE to make my own,but time is my enenmy. Also you need longer tower studs,also available on ebay.

I have been told a spacer thickness will double the lift,eg 5mmm spacer=10mm lift,10mm spacer=20mm lift etc.

Be very cautious taking this approach, it can void your insurance and make your car unroadworthy.

Hi Trent, yeah it does raise that concern. my thinking is if your going to pull the front and rear struts out and fabricate spacers(and longer studs if needed), then you might as well fit new longer springs.it's nearly the same amount of work.

I put on Gt Radial AT3 Adventuro's in 245/70/17LT.

they are 776mm compared to 745-750 for the factory tyres,doesnt sound much but makes a difference.

Im very happy with these tyres,great handling,awesome in the wet, well built and a great price(with a full replacement warranty not a pro-rater type).

PS- Have found Lovells springs as well, they do ones for heavy duty standard height and heavy duty lifted.....when funds allow im going for the later.

Thanks for that TA74, disappointed to find out its only a 17'! haha

The tallest tyre I can find for the 19' is the 255/55/R19 which is about 1cm lower than your GT Radial AT3 17's.

Back to the drawing board for me.

To find tall tyres for 19's proved to be a challenging task!

BTW I did consider raised springs for the Kluger but unsure how it will affect the handling between a 20mm to 30mm raise.

Hi Speedz, check this Toureq forum out, you might be able to fit a 255/60/19 tyre either a Goodyear kevlar or a Cooper Zenon(can highly recommend Coopers as ive ran them for nearly fifteen years with no problems).

But as they say, all tyres vary in dia evan if the side wall description is then same eg:- 255/55/19

Your other option is to buy some second hand 17in rims and put some real A/T tyres with a good side wall ( bettr side wall bag out for sand driving and better resistance to staking).

Hey TA,

I had a quick look on Google, it seems GY Australia dont stock the 255/60/19 size, for the Cooper they only have 255/55/19. My Grande trim funny enough wears OEM 245/50/19 only sort of realised when I parked next to another Kluger and noticed my ride sits slightly lower than the one with a 245/55/19.

Did some further research and probably the cheapest Cooper 255/55/19 Zenons is Tempe Tyres at $300 a pop.

Hi Speedz, thats a very good price for those tyres,are you sure thats correct?

I paid $270 for my light truck 17inch Gt Radials. If it is correct,go grab them,Coopers are great and i talk from experience.Alos try Pirelli ATR , Gy duratrac or General Grabber AT).

Those Coopers measure in at 765mm overall dia(mine are 776mm) compared to 752mm for the factory tyres.But just check the tyre width as its very tight around the rear strut.

or you go for a narrower tyre with a higher side wall, maybe 235/65/19?

I've heard good things on the Pirelli ATR as well, and they are about the same price as the Coopers from memory. My current state of the Bridgies I think I have about 15k km left still sometime to think about what tyres to get but Coopers sounds more rugged than the Pirelli.

TA give you have changed into a more A/T tyres are they noticeably noisier than the full bitumens OEMs? I don't think my wife allows me to have a 2nd set 17s for off-roading, I might as well trade the damn thing for a LC or Prado! :)
