Replacing the supercharger seal

Recommended Posts

I just got my car back from my local Toyota dealership after a 120k service.

They told me the seal on the supercharger is leaking and as the don't manufacture that part anymore, so the only option is to replace the supercharger at the low low price of $5323!!

can anyone tell me if I can get an aftermarket replacement seal or service kit?? I cannot for the life of me see why I should shell out over $5k If i can replace a part that probably only worth a few dollars.

What.

The.

Absolute.

F##K?

That's just ridiculous. I know that when I finally get around to it (my coupler is slowly on its way out I'm fairly certain, need to confirm before I order a new one) I'm just going to use the old gasket goo.

A new bloody charger, jebus, that's the cruellest idea of a joke I've heard in a long time!

Toyota Australia is really giving Toyota a bad name, they didn't want to replace faulty Aurion and Camry dashes at the start and now they want TRD owners to buy new super chargers over one gasket.....WTF !!!

Exactly LordBug, It's not a gasket leak but the seal on the belt pulley. I'm onto Harrop shortly, see what they can do for me.

But yeah... I nearly had a cow when the Toyota bloke said that...

Update: Spoke to Harrop. They won't sell the parts. It's all in-house apparently. But If I can get my Supercharger off and send it to them, they'll fix it all up, and send it back to me for around $300. I'm pretty happy with that. My only problem is that I'm in WA and they are in Melbourne. But... still much better than the cost of a replacement.

I got my supercharger serviced. Seals, coupler, bearings, cleaned, oiled (to the right amount). for $990.

Was done by a workshop specialising in superchargers and performance parts here in QLD.

Look around your area for Supercharger specialist. be warned tho. I was told getting the charger off was a real pain in the backside.

In-house Harrop, in-house Toyota or in-house Eaton (it's an Eaton supercharger)?

I stand educated, only a touch embarrassed, but most of all a bit gutted by that wee bit of oiled surface where there shouldn't be on my supercharger. Think I'll look into how hard it is to do that snout seal myself.
