GEARBOX TROUBLE PLEASE HELP

BAMF

Recommended Posts

I have a 97 4x4 hilux 2.7 petrol with 330 00km on clock

Put it in the shop last week to replace back suspention and while it was in I got the drive oils changed

Next day I headed out to a job and 90km up the road the car suddenly revved out and had no drive. There was no bang, bad vibration or noise. I could select gears and high/low 4 but it wouldn't drive.

Floated car to work depot, once off tilt truck I started it and it drove. I drove it home the next day, gear change was smooth and easy to select. Got 5km short of home and it did it again.

Next day after work got mate to tow me home. Unhooked car put it in gear and it drove again!! !#&*#&@!!

I keep thinking it is something electricail, but I am not a machanic's ahole. I am able to pull it apart and put it back togeather but dont have the experiance to work out what is causing the problem

Can someone please help

Thankyou.

How is the clutch/clutch fluid? and any chance of oil getting into the clutch when the oils were changed.

My 97 hilux (338 000 kms) has a worn clutch and I have to keep in a low gear uphills when I have a big load on the tray.

Clutch is fine. Put it in first hand brake on little rev let clutch out and it stalls, no slip

First gear isn't the best rest for clutch slip, try third or fourth instead.

R U sure the gear lever(s) aren't moving? [jumping out of gear?] and diff has consistent power drive through it [no missing teeth?] Sounds like clutch is critically worn and spins loose when hot. You'll have to drop the dust plate from between the sump and the bottom of the bellhousing and have a look for debris/oil leaks A bit of clutch spin should rustle/stink/smoke too. when was the last clutch installed? does a woman drive it? [they often drive foot on clutch pedal, partic in heels] check pedal adjustment? It's not difficult-there is good reason why it's happening. Whilstclutch is being replaced, renew all seals between fan and both prop shafts on driveline. They're overdue unless done at or since 250,000km. Expect some shaft wear and to use speedisleeves.

SO I TOOK IT BACK TO MECHANIC AND HE ADJUSTED THE CLUTCH PEDAL.

TELLS ME IT WAS OUT TO FAR AND OVER A DISTANCE IT WAS ALLOWING FLUID TO PRESSURISE THE CYLINDER AND ENGAGE THE CLUTCH? SOUNDS ODD, BUT WHAT DO YOU DO.

DOWNSIDE IS IT COST ME NOTHING TO FIX THE PROBLEM. THE MISUS TOLD ME IF I SPENT ANY MORE MONEY ON THE 4B SHE WAS OUT OF HERE. SO I KEEP THE OLD GIRL and the wife. MIGHT BUY A NEW CLUTCH.

THANKS FOR THE HELP.
