SR5.spare wheel

I recently purchased a new Hilux SR5 with 17" alloy rims. I've noticed the spare is a steel rim which the nuts on the alloys don't fit. How can this be legal? As I understand it steel rims require different nuts to alloy rims yet these aren't supplied nor was it raised by Toyota. Has anyone else raised this?

I had a similar issue ( the steel spare wheel ) which I 'attempted to raise' with the firm I purchased my new 2015 Hilux SR5 from. Their reply, "You're the only one that's ever raised the issue". I wasn't impressed with their response. I think I was refused access to complete the Customer Survey 1-2 weeks after purchase. I had a few comments to make about the issue. To cut a long story, I purchased a Toyota Mag rim off Gumtree for about $250. I couldn't believe how cheap Toyota was to not include the spare Mag rim. imagine the time involved in replacing the steel rim every time you get a puncture. Less than impressed!!!

Pretty sure the end of the nuts off the alloy wheel are tapered to suit a steel wheel, ( Tapered Shank ) even though their longer they hold the steel wheel on perfectly. You will find its not just a Toyota related matter, its across the board, think for a moment all the vehicles on the road with alloys as standard and have a stupid steel space saver as a spare, :whistling:

$250 saved from roughly 40,000 vehicles (number of Hiluxes sold in 2014 in Australia) is $10 million dollars. Not exactly "cheap", and in no way limited to only Toyota.
