Oil leak from water pump on 2005 Corolla Sportivo

Recommended Posts

Hi guys

It's been a while but thought I would post a thread to get some expert help from current and previous owners of the mighty 2ZZGE.

I noticed a couple of drops of oil on the garage floor and had my mechanic look under the car where he said he could see oil around the water pump.

He said it's not an urgent fix and will more than likely stop but could come back. Well, that's exactly what happened...it went away and now it's come back.

So my questions are:

  1. Is it likely that the water pump can leak oil?
  2. Has anyone else had experienced this same issue?
  3. What kind of costs would I be looking at for the OEM part and labour?

Thanks in advance

can't leak oil from the waterpump.  It could be leaking from a number of places in that area, usually from the cam cover seal, but could also be from the vvt solenoid o-ring or the front timing cover to block interface (which is sealed with form-in-place-gasket/gasket goo)

Thanks so much for your reply mate.

I was thinking the same thing too.

I'm now wondering why the service mechanic at Toyota recommended to replace the water pump.

Any ideas?

Best to give the engine bay a nice clean, remove any of the oil and residue. The start to monitor where the leak is coming from there.

Obviously you'll be looking more towards the drivers side where the water pump sits.

Just to clarify, it's an oil leak not a coolant leak?
