Hilux engine swap

Recommended Posts

This question has probably been asked time and time again. I have a 92 single cab hilux that is raised it is also 4x4. Currently has a 2.4  diesel engine. I want to change it out for something with more go. Was looking at the lexus v8, any thoughts?  My main worries are:

-would I lose the 4x4?

-fuel consumption

-would I need to change the prop shafts and diff to handle the new engine.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks guys.

Stupid question I know, But i was wondering if it is possible to do a 3MZ-FE Swap with my 1998 5spd Manual Toyota Camry MCV20R.
If yes, what would I have to do?

Hi there. I hope I haven't jumped onto the site under false pretenses as I don't actually own a Toyota Hilux at the moment, BUT I will with your help.
I'm here to learn a bit, or a lot, more about Hiluxs before I shell out my hard earned and make sure I get the right one.
My intention is to get an Extra Cab with 60 - 100k on the clock, around 5 - 7 years old to cart my motorcycle(s) around. It will never go offroad nor will it ever carry more than 300kg so, in effect, it will have an easy life. I'm not looking to "steal" one but I would like to get one that is in good nic and at a reasonable price.
I'll be prowling around the site trying to lean as much as I can and asking a lot, of hopefully not dumb, questions.
So, I beg you for your patience and help in my attempt to get into one of these fine vehicles and thank you in advance for any and all help.
      Finally, I am in Melbourne.
      Cheers,
      Mac

      Hey Guys,
Ive had my 2.8 Lux for almost 7 years now. Trying to do services on her every 5000 but she has also been sheded for a year here and there through the years. She has always been a little dirty pig. Blows plenty of black smoke and drips oil from who knows where, but i love her to bits. I've had many different opinions on where and why but still she is in her same situation. Im thinking and researching about a Desludge with Diesel, ATF or a mixture of one of them and oil. I know this is a hot topic but i want to know what is the consensus on old LN106r 2.8 engines. I really think she could benefit from it, maybe, i think. She has only done 260000 but before me you can see she's had a hard life. I think a pigging mobile! Anyway I've read that maybe ill have to take out my oil pan after the first flush, how do i do that? if i go ahead with the desludge. or are there other ways apart from diesel or ATF flush.
      Cheers
Im open to discussion and reasoning.
      A proud 90's Hilux owner.

      Hi!
Is the oil residual on the engine cap (photo is attached) a warning on the condition of the engine?
Also, when starting the engine, light white smoke comes out of the exhust, but it goes away after around 15 minutes.
      Thanks!

      G'day to all,

Has anyone attempted to wire fog lights into their Revo SR hilux? I have heard that the SR of this generation of hilux does not come with a wiring loom to fit fog lights back to the dash and that you will need to run the cabling custom? I just wanted to see if anyone has done this yet... I would like to wire my fog lights properly so that the indication light shows up on my instrument cluster when its powered but if i have to run my own relay and wiring i wont bother unless i can run a wire easily to  the computer so that it can indicate for me.

      Cheers.
