Spill control valve??

new to this site/forum

i have a turbo diesel 2003 hilux

1kz-te engine

recently was driving on free way and engine light come on and car stopped , and could not get it started had to get it towed . 

took to my mechanic and the error code came up and we changed timing belt due to it being stretched 

i drove the car again and after about 250 k it stopped again .twice . But could get it started and got ir home , it drove perfectly 

i took it back to mech and the error code pointed out spill control valve 

they said it could be just sticky and added an injector cleaner hoping this will fix the problem 

if the thing is faulty would i just be better to replace it ??  Concerned im going to get stuck on the side of the road again 

anyone have any thoughts or have expireinced something similar

Unless it is verified as being faulty, do not throw money/parts at it...unless you have a deep wallet.

If it was me, I would replace it. Caused you problems twice - you got lucky once. So at the moment you are in front! You can test the resistance across the spv.cant remember what it should be but I’m sure you can google it.
