How To Remove Your ECU

Hey Guys,

I just thought I would share this with you all hope it can be of assistance to someone.... It is advisable to disconnect your battery first although I have been told you can just remove the EFI fuse.... but better to be safe than sorry ;)

HOW TO REMOVE YOUR ECU......

1. Locate your glove box :P

2. Open and remove all you crap from it....

3. Flex sides of glove box inwards to get the little stop things past the surrounding dash...

4. Reach in and remove the little plastic tube strut type thing that makes the glove box open and close smoothly, just pull it to the right...

5. Pull the glove box towards you so it unclips from its hinges at the base…

6. Stick your head in the foot well and look up, you will see two “plastic push in clip/screw thingies” (I didn’t take a photo ) pull these out and then rotate the plastic guard towards the floor

Here is a pic of the guard thing hanging down the blue circle is where one of the “plastic push in clip/screw thingies” goes…

7. Remove the two screws circled in red and unhook the hook circled in green… and with a little bit of a wiggle it comes out (there is a rubber tab that mounts the front of the ECU into the firewall it wiggles out)

8. Unplug the connectors….

and there you have it….

This was all done on my 2003 Levin but shao was got a bit curious when I was telling him about it so he will be able to confirm if it is the same for the Sportivo or not.....

And if anyone is wondering why would I bother to pull my car apart and post all this....well

There are 64 wires connected in the manual 2003 Levin 1zzfe ECU harness

it's actually a whole lot less dodgey than using vampire splices and bullet connectors like some "professional" installers use.

This method doesn't compromise the factory loom at all, and it does work... :P

The best part is you can remove it, and no-one will ever know it was there in the first place, unlike a unichip etc which splice into the factory loom.

This is essentially the same as the older HKS FCON setups that use a "fields" harness for quick installation/removal.

yeah as rollamods said it works :D we tested the extn loom before we spliced in the emanage, and the car drove perfectly without a hitch...

Now just have to get it tuned up and away I go :P

Total cost so far $450...

$400 for the E-manage

$50 for the second hand 1zzfe ecu that came out of a wrecked Jap celica....

Well Guys and Girls the e-manage is installed and tuned and the results are pretty good imho... :D

The pre-tune figure was 76.2

Yeah the car feels great to drive, we had a bit od a hiccup with the tune last night but i went back mid morning today and the guys at Mercury sorted it all out and now its running better than ever... :D :D :D
