Hi all,

I'm having a stupid question: I've got 2 old cars which all under my name. Now my kids are growing up, I wish to give them those cars (they are using these cars now, insurance under their names). I know I have to transfer my name to theirs as gifts, do I need to pay transfer fees as normal ? I don't know the values of those cars (1 Vienta Grand, 8yrs old next month (150,000 km) and 1 CR-V sprt 5.5 yrs old (31,000km).

Please help.

Thanks

You still will be required to pay stamp duty on the transfer of titles no matter which state you are in and this will be calculated on sale price or market value (whichever is higher) obviously yours will be on market value as the cars are 'a gift'.

the values can be found using http://www.redbook.com.au
