Recommended Posts

I have today witnessed a very ugly car .. the new Subaru WRX hatch .... looks like a mazda 323 had realtions with a toyota prius....

terrible ....

That side on pic below is better than the one i saw on the road with LED tail lights .. could also be ford focus been stepped on....

Toyota japan has applied to purchase 51% of subaru and has been given permission by japanese gov .. but not gone ahead yet .. article i found few months ago

It aint' pretty. That's faw shaw. lol. it's got the Mazda SP23 profile with 07 Civic Type R tail lights. I'm sure it will look nicer in the flesh. It's taken design ques from the new Forester.

Toyota actually own 9% of Fuji Heavy Industries which is the parent company of Subaru. They are planning on combining a Toyota vehicle with a Subaru motor and AWD in the future.

source? this sounds like juicy news :yahoo: :yahoo:

Trust me the new WRX looks alot nicer in person, it also nicer to drive then the old one. My Mum works for Subaru and bought one home a few weeks ago. The GPS option is quite cool and reminded me of the Liberty.

The WRX is definately not what it use to be though, and what annoys me the most about it is the lack of a 6spd (what the?) Its still fast (yay), and it's handling is smart. You drive normally and the steering is lose and friendly but then give it some poke (for those of you in Perth going on the Roe Hwy on ramp to Kwinana Freeway north) and it gets tight and reponsive. I could feel the car trying to slip out then the electronic stability control bringing it back while doing 90 on a fairly tight on ramp - quite the cool. The handling is still good as ever, its just alot "softer" then the old one. Clutch was a bitch: think Sportivo clutch but heavier and easier to stall (more grabby - I stalled 3 times in a 20 minute drive).

The car also feels "big" inside, and it feels like a big car to drive. The hood scoop is also alot more apparent from the inside looking over the bonnet then it is from the outside.

I talked with my Mum about it and we both agreed this car is not for the young 21-25 so much anymore. They are targetting a wider audience (i.e. Golf/Mazda 3/Astra drivers), rather then being a fairly specialist car. The new target audience is primarily female middle age empty nesters for the normal Impreza range (R-RX-RS) which is reflected in it's looks. And I'd say the WRX probably falls into this category too.

I think the STI is going to be the only big "manly" one when it gets released early next year, so I for one am looking forward to the STI. Forget the WRX :P

Thats my 2 cents on my beloved WRX

Yeah. I guess the Subi market research guys finally realised why insurance premiums for their beloved WRX range was so high :whistling: :whistling: . It must have hurt sales for the other market segment (the one you mentioned). oh well. only time will tell if subi brings the goods with the STI.

you have to remember that at the end of the day, Subaru wants to win more WRC championships and with the removal of the prototype class and a return of Group N and Super 2000 as the top class car companies are making a push to release a competitive production model that will work in group N. The hatch redesign has allowed Subaru to improve their aero package, lighten the weight and greater flexibility in the rear suspension setup which is why I believe they took this direction, as opposed to any marketing ploy ;)

Ok since when has a wrx ever been 'pretty', never. This is by far the nicest looking wrx, in my opinion. I am glad they have gone the hatch route, it looks sexy. As far as sporty goes hatches are way more sporty than a sedan, in most cases anyway.

I dunno man! :whistling: I drive the sportivo and love it to death but i still reakon it would be sexier as a 2door coupe. hehehe :spiteful:

I agree, gotta love the Coupes

Anyways I think its a great marketting ploy to keep changing their looks in different ways, keeps people talking doesn't it?

Can't wait till I can afford one.

the sedan version is due for release early next year isn't it?

I'd say the STI will be a sedan (guessing), not the WRX. I'm quite certain WRX will only be in 5dr form in Australia

It won't. the STI is a hatch with pumped guards, bigger wheels and quad tail pipes. It looks horn.
