Aircondition STINKS

Hey guys..do u guys have any idea why my rolla n a few other rolla's airconditioning sometimes stink when we turn them on??

Do any of u guys have a prob like that?

How do u solve it =(

spray some glade or Glen 20 (these destroy oders instead of covering them) down the airvents on the OUTSIDE of the car at teh top of the firewall.

It will pass through the entire system that way.

Ammonia = wonderful. When I first got my car, the aircon smelled like something had crawled in and died, a kid you not. I had to more or less flush out all the air conduits, and it more or less cleared the smell. Mind you, I work in a very smelly business.

Maybe, however, that is what is going on - the previous owner or Toyota flushed the vents with an ammonia based substance...

- turn off your air-conditioner but leaving the fan on for about two minutes before you turn the car off or;

- check your cabin air filter or;

- run the heater for 10 mins or;

- check the evaporator drain hose, it might be clogged

My car had the same problem try running it with recycle turned off for a week or so. Helps out a bit although doesn't completly remove the smell.

Yeah i know ey..it does help but doesnt help much..

i owes switch it to the other 1 once the smell comes..

my friend had this problem.. it was soooooooo bad.. i nearly vomitted..

he said he never used the ac

anyway... ive heard ppl saying.. spraying at the air con filter... but none of the corolla came with it.. i think

you can buy a disinfected spray from supercheap. They should be around $20 (saw one @ a mechanic workshop)

so what you do is, spray it into the vents above the bonnet n also the air vents inside the car.

also it is recommended by Toyota to use the Air Condition at least 5 minutes each week.

The 07 Model has one just behind the Glove box...if that helps?

If the car isn't new, could mean the previous owner smoked in the car with the aircon on. It's VERY had to get rid of the smell if this is the case.

Always switch on the aircon and put your nose right up to the vents when checking out a used car.

Have just noticed a slight smell when air conditions is first turned on also i have had my corolla since new 2005 and am a non smoker use a air freshner next service will get toyota to check it

Mine smells like ratbag minge, so i just drive with the windows down, that way u can hear an intake if u have one as well

I get the dampy smell (the same smell of your towel after you use it, but then leave it to dry on a chair without properly washing it)... goes away after a few minutes though... i always thought it was condensation

I really hope i can get rid of the foul smell ASAP

so embarrasing if u have ur girl or something in the car.n then she goes like whats that smell? or ur car stinks :(

You're not the only one. I get the bad smells in my car and I have a cabin air filter. I think it happens when you don't use your air con often and if you're always on recirculating air.

That makes sense because I never get the smell and I never use recirculated air
