ugh whats this world come to when you can't leave your car at the shops for a couple of hours without the side skirts being stolen

now i gotta go through the hassle of claiming it on insurance :(

/end vent

Posted

ahh that sucks mate.... worse thing is coming back to your car and seeing parts of it gone!

Posted

dont see why u cant claim it. Theyll charge u an excess though. What colour was it, and wat time? was it a sportivo?

Posted

bad news . did they damage any other part of your car getting them off.? Before you claim check and make sure your no claim bonus is not affected and also your excess as it may be better and cheaper to go out and find some side skirts and pay for them yourself.

Posted

yeah its a white sportivo stolen some time during the day i guess

just looked it up its about $500 excess...

$500 dollars installed and painted is going to be cheaper than buying it myself correct ??

Posted

well depends if the insurance company will give you hassle, they might take their time. But do shop arround, maybe you can find them cheaper and maybe know some1 to paint and fit them urself

now for my real question

can i claim this on insurance ? if i have comprehensive ?

you can but with things like that insurance is such a bitch its probably easier to fix it yourself...

btw sorry about the sideskirts mate :(

i'm with the nrma so hopefully it should be fine....

on a side note when i had a wrx i never parked it at the shops and here i was thinking the corolla would be safe lol

btw if u have a sportivo don't park it at westfields "mt druitt" or any shopping centre for extended periods of time

bad news . sorry to hear ...

They would of cased you out .. shame when people steal Parts off the car i had the glass from the mirror stolen overnight and of all things my chrome valve tyre covers a while ago

just a hint park next to a commodore or a fancy car(bmw) ... less likely for people to steal from it ... cause commodores are easiest to break into and most popular for joyride/parts

Did you park outside at Mt Druit?

It gets pretty populated during the day.

I'm sure somebody would have seen it.

Posted

Yeah, i reckon! Unless you were there at a dodgy time of night, how could noone see someone (or multiple people) not sat beside it with spanner or whatnot???

Don't suppose you've asked security if theres any footage of the incident between the hours you were there?

Posted

ahhh man. that is a burna. hope you fix it all up soon. did they damage the car at all while trying to take off the skirts? can you see if the bolts for the front bar have marks on it. maybe they tried taking that off to or might come back for it later on.

Posted

you'll need to file a police report and get an incident number before you can claim.

Claim thru insurance champ...

Side skirts themselves would be worth more than $500 unpainted...

as if that's how it works, the dodgy repair shop will just put 'an order' in for another pair and they will magically turn up having mysteriously disappeared off someone else's car... [/sarcasm]

And then you'll have a head-on and your airbag won't deploy [/sarcasm]

really??

we have a sportivo too and never have had problems there at mt druitt. even our stubby antenna is still there.

what level were you parked on. i either park near the top floor of target entrance or on the roof near the travelator that goes down to the food court.

and how long were you there for??

White is more common to be stolen because it's easier to paint.

No one would randomly target a corolla ... most people i have seen with sportivo's have badges removed or 1zz have sportivo kit might even not be a genuine kit . why risk getting caught for that . unfortunatly you were proberly stalked for an order

<yes dodgy panel beaters do put out orders i had one offer me a HSV bumper for my holden at to replace as factory one already painted told me a customer left it behind (YEAH!) and he said he didn't need to tell insurance company> I did take the car somewhere else .....( some use insurance company to make money unfortunatly)

they would of seen same car same area same times ....(drive round the casino in melbourne i could tell you what level some cars are on every night and they proberly arn't even staff) People have routines

it takes time to remove sideskirts if they rushing they could damage them ... they would of know how long they had .. would of been quicker to break glass and get your stereo out ... hope the insurance pays you ... they are always looking for a way out

This is why i think we should have a stolen parts/car Post

I would get a quote from Toyota for painted and fitted genuine and send insurance the quote .. not a panel beater quote

wow man this sucks hardcore!!

Its got me thinking now, generally i just park at shopping centres and i never really think about anything getting taken off my car, but now i'll be more cautious where i park.

this is why i want to buy one of those proximity sensor alarms(i think thats the right name for it), where say they come into a very close distance from the car and the alarm will go off before they even touch the car...i dont care how many cars park next to me and it goes off at them too, as long as my car will be safe lol..

and yes, i do know that some really good car theifs can stop alarms going off real quick, although in the middle of a busy shopping centre, i'm sure they're not gonna smash the window, pop the hood and then smash the siren..not when there will be people around looking at them lol

The corolla has been one of the top selling cars for the past 5 years.

That means there are heaps of them on the road, it also means that heaps of them get into accidents.

it is therefore easy for panel shops to do the dodgy thing and get parts from stolen vehicles such as airbag steering wheels, body kits, and other larger ticket items, then charge the insurace company full price and pocket the difference.

Don't say it doesn't happen because it's been happening for decades.

I too have heard stories like these. It's bad enough that you have to deal with those blood sucking insurance companies, then you have to be weary of dodgy repairers....makes me sick.
