Hey guys,

I've noticed that when taking off I am getting a cherping kinda sound when taking off and in low revs.

When my Sportivo was taken for it's Toyota service I mentioned it to them and the mechanic told me he lubricated the fan belt.

Im not much of a mechanic or techo but does this sound right?

Any help would be great.

Cheers

In what gear??, There was someone else who said the same thing a while ago & the reason was because he was rolling in the wrong gear

Get them to adjust the accessory belt tensioner. If that doesn't solve it move onto a new belt then a new tensioner.

Thanks SuperDave.

Where abouts is the accessory belt tensioner?

Can you do it yourself?

I've missed something... where do you thing the chirp is coming from?

Chirp and squeal

Chirp and thud

Chirp and knock

Simple, unidimensional chrip coming from <insert here>

Is your car still under warranty???

Take it to Toyota and get the belt and tensioner replaced under warranty...

If your warranty is over, ask for a Warranty authorisation request to be sent to Toyota in regards to these items and if that gets denied, expect to pay around the $500 - $600 mark...

tensioner is non adjustable but yeh if its a belt squeel itll be that

putting grease on the belt sometimes helps strangely enough but it rarely works for long

superdave always goes one better lol!

you might actually wanna check out your water pump.

i just serviced my car and when i was checking out everything i noticed that my water pump has started to leak and my belt is chirping possibly due to coolant leaking onto it.

just a thought hate to see you stuck cause its overheated.

so i spose ill be putting up a how to thread when i get me a new water pump <_<

I always find it funny when people try and say that a FWD car has a fan belt.........

Do not spend money for belt tensioner and belt. The noise problem will come back after few hundreds of kilometers. This is one of the unsolvable little issues of this car.

I replaced them once under guarantee but I did not care to do it again after few weeks! The car is like this for 2 years w/o any serious problem.

the 2zz's belt tensioners are hydraulic, they go pretty quick, poor design, common problem
