200 series Sahara Pre-collision system malfunction
Members 1 First Name:Peter Toyota Model:Landcruiser Sahara Year: 2017 Location: Western Australia Posted January 21, 2024 We have the same problem. 2017 Landcruiser Sahara. I have been to a dealership who said they fixed it. They thought it was a wiring connector malfunction next to the windscreen rear view mirror. The problem returned after 6 months. They showed me how to reset the "limp mode" when it happens. Close all doors. Turn on engine. Turn off engine. Lock the car using the key switch. Unlock the car using the key switch. Repeat this two (2) more times. (total of 3 times). The system resets, the messages disappear, the car is out of "limp mode". This is great, except at the moment the problem returns about 20 minutes later. Yes, it is frustrating but worst of all, depending on who you talk to, dealers included, everyone has a different solution, but nobody has the final solution. At least, I have been told that I can keep driving the car whilst this error is displayed as long as I am aware that the pre-crash system won't work. I must say that otherwise, I think this car is an absolute beauty. Does anyone have a magic answer? Peter Lanski, did you get a magic remedy from anyone? Have had the same issue, takes out cruise including of course adaptive, lane departure, Does not derate the engine, Not sure I've done this properly being 1st time on this forum club. Pete.B. WA -

New to Toyota Owners Club
Hi all Just thought I post my 2000 Prado 3.4L, 5 Speed Manual, 352xxx kms, LSD, Dual tanks (not the SUB pump into main) Still got some suspension work to do on it and tyres but goes well. Just installed 2x solar panels on the roof cage (still have a 3rd as a fold out) and future upgrades is wheels, winch bullbar and exhaust. It's just gonna be more of a tourer/mild 4WD so not gonna throw too much at it Cheers -

2000 Prado ebay power steering rack
Evening guys, Got myself a 2000 Landcruiser Prado and slowly attending to the neglected suspension but I noticed after changing my inner rack ends, it's been leaking (not sure for how long) I know how to change these racks (not impossible but maybe awkward) and I know it can be cheaper maybe getting new seals and getting a mechanic to do it but just wondering if anyone has had any luck with a new power steering rack off Ebay (the $250-$300 ones). I've read reviews and they don't seem to have any negative results and obviously the Prados are also overseas (Tecomas). Just alot easier for me to change on my own then to go without a car (as possible chance, it be my home on wheels if getting evicted) Cheers -

Front Wheel Hub Bearings...
Essentially you can stick the screw driver on any bit of the engine, but the closer to a rotating part the better, but if there are zero noises when the car isn't being driven, including with your head "under the bonnet" with someone revving the engine, or turning the wheels (if your car has a power steering pump) or when the aircon is switched on etc.... I would say that it's unlikely to be an engine bay related noise. From what I've seen in your posts over the years, I'm glad that you're car can't talk..... because it wouldn't shut up about how much it loves you 🙂 Given that you don't plan on selling it (unless I tell you this weeks winning lotto numbers... and even then.....), changing the wheel bearings won't hurt. Keep us updated mate 🙂 -

Red Liquid In Catch Can
No worries. Hopefully it's not the head gasket... In regards to red dye in and untaxed diesel fuel, I googled "red diesel Australia" and from what I can see we do have this in Australia. So to rule that out I would collect a sample when you fuel up next at your local, or if you feel brave syphoning some fuel from your tank. All the best Steve -

Hi, Thanks, yes I have just had to top up the coolant and will be monitoring that but I think that was low due to another reason. My first thought was it red due to untaxed fuel but didn't find anything about it being the case in Australia. I know in the UK untaxed fuel is red. Hopefully it's not a head gasket 🤞 Cheers Dave -

Front Wheel Hub Bearings...
Hi Stephen, I only took it out the one time and there is definitely something going on in the drive side of things, ie wheel bearings. I don't think a CV joint would make a groaning sound the likes I was hearing. CV shafts tend to click when turning which would indicate a bad articulating joint. The car starts up and runs quietly and smoothly. It turns corners with no CV clicks. The sound starts as you begin motion and gets to a level not loud enough to bother you, but low enough to have you thinking what it could be. It slowly dissipates as you slow down. Now, I did manage to test it on a smooth, quiet bit of road and my thoughts are still on the wheel bearing/s. I think one is going out for sure. To have two at the same time would be rare. I also removed the wheels and checked the tyre surface on both and they are good. I have always used Michelin Primacy 3ST tyres on our Aurion and they are of the highest quality. I would never expect them to feather out to the point they may create road noise. I know the difference between tyre noise and a bearing noise. The tyres have a symmetrical pattern that even under heavy use, will not induce tyre noise. The Primacy 3st tyres are known for their "silent technology" (ST). Even so, our car is always driven carefully and sedately so no chance of tyres going bad or drivetrain issues. If this car could talk, it would tell me daily how much it loves us because we have taken really could care of it. I'm aiming to have another go at it this Saturday and hopefully put my finger on it. Regardless, it has done the kays now to warrant new front wheel bearings anyway, so if it is one bearing, then this would be the perfect opportunity for some preventative maintenance and a good reset for the front end going forward. I plan to never sell this car, so it will get the treatment it needs when it needs it. Thankfully I have a small war chest of new Original parts stashed away for rainy days anyway and will continue to keep an eye out for other consumable items as they come up for sale. Recently purchased two Genuine Toyota front struts, front brake disc rotors and genuine brake pads. I've had it with aftermarket crap rotors and pads. They just don't last. I'll hopefully get the rear struts soon and keep them for when I do a suspension refresh. Trying to get as much as I can now before the stock dries up. I really want to use Genuine parts on this car as much as possible, especially the suspension. They don't ride the same with after market stuff. This I'm not sure of. What part of the motor do you mean ? I'll rev it up and see if the alternator protests, but I doubt it's that. My money is on a wheel bearing. -

Hi Dave, I DON'T own a Landcruiser.... or a car with a catch can.... but Have you noticed that you need to top up the engine coolant? OR perhaps you are using diesel fuel with a red colour added: "Red diesel is basically untaxed fuel, and to use on the roads you are supposed to use taxed fuel. It is therefore illegal to fill your car, motorbike or van with red diesel and drive to & from the shops or commute to work." So maybe next time you fuel up at your local... try to obtain a sample. -
