I have a 2002 Corolla Ascent and I lost my set of keys. After I have bought a 100 key the dealer wants me to spent 1,200. They say that I need to buy and install a new computer. The reason is that they can not read the code off the computer to program my new key. I talked to some auto shop owners in the U.S. and they say that this shouldn't have to be done. It is possible to read the code from the computer. I was wondering if anyone knew how to program the keys with out the dealer hassle. I use to drive a VW/Jetta and lost my keys to that, and programmed them my self without the hassle of the dealer. Can anyone help me out???? PLEASE I AM STUCK!

Unfortunately you need a dealer to do the coding, unless you have the $15,000 IT computer lying around at your place to code up the keys. When you lose all the keys, you need to replace the Door Reciever and all the keys.

I think this was mentioned before when doing the ECU upgrade. Try sticking the key in and turn to ON. Then pump the brakes 6 times. I think that was how it was done. Maybe someone else can confirm. I might be wrong though.

Do you have a master key (black head) or a sub key(grey head)? If you cut your new master key off the sub key you will need a new engine ECU because you need a master key to program a new key. That is probably why the dealer said it is so expensive.

What state are you in?? If you live in the Melbourne area go to Frankston Toyota(or call them 97838400-Service Centre). They might give you some advice and a very good deal in reprogramming the key. You might find a code to take in with you in the first page of your owners manual too.

Kind Regards,

Lauschie

I remember there is this code for your key, if you lose it, you tell the dealer the code and they can give u the new key.
