Removing 1991 gauge cluster

Recommended Posts

Recently the lights behind the fuel/temp gauge in my corolla have blown and i was looking to replace them myself.

I removed numerous plastic panels including under the steering wheel, the center dash/above the steering wheel, the black panel around the instruments then the screws for the cluster and even the radio but i still couldnt get in to undo teh speedo. Just wondering if anyone could give some help on how its done?

Inside the engine bay, locate the speedo cable and undo the join behind the inlet manifold...

That'll give you enough cable movement to bring the cluster forward to remove the cable from the back of the cluster...

Not vital, but be careful not to spin or turn the cable while its disconnected from the gearbox and still connected to the cluster. this can sometimes throw the calibration on the speedo.
