Hey Guys,

I'm new around the forums, I have just purchased myself a 1999 Celica SX as shown below.

The boy itself is in great condition inside is immaculate. HOWEVER:

When i purchased it everything was fine, however now I seem to be getting squealing from the fan belt.

I have had the belt replaced twice,

One the first belt I have tried the following:

powder, this worked for a few days then the noise returned.

Tried lubricating it, that made it worse.

Tried a new belt however cleaned all the pulleys before putting on the belt.

Still no luck.

Wondering if anyone else here has had this problem???

The noise seems to disappear when the car is warm, only seems to happen on cold starts..

any help would be great, I have been checking google for possible solutions cant seem to find much

Thanks in advance

Are you making sure that you're tensioning the belt correctly when you put it back on? New belt or no, it'll still squeal if it's not tight.

hey mate

I assume you are not a member or either ozcelica or newcelica. There is a sticky in the 7th gen area about his.

I have not done this but from what i understand changing belts to a gatorback belt(Goodyear Gatorback Poly-V belt) is a permenant solution to this problem. I believe there is a supplier in australia(possibly sydney).

This occurs on pretty much all 7th gens i believe at one time or another but look into it.

Hope this helps
